The text works to give answers the obvious question, "how?," but also takes time to answer, "why?" I have worked in electrical engineering for over 30 years, and I have found this text has taught me new relevant information on power supplies, amplifiers, wiring and safety that isn't just for audio professionals. My field is not expressly audio, but I found the chapters on psycho acoustics, microphones, loudspeakers, etc. enlightening. There is a newer 5th edition, however this 4th edition probably has almost everything you'll need. This book is a good value for the money and would be a good addition to the desks of audio professionals and electrical engineers. Review: Money Well Spent - As long as you are aware that this is a highly technical book, you will really enjoy it. It is the best book I have seen for learning the basics of running live, or for that matter, studio sound. This will answer the questions you may have that old timers can't answer - why do you do that? Often times they do from instinct the things in this book, because they work, but cannot explain why they work. This is money well spent. Don't get if you are a beginner. If you do have background in aidio this book introduces great views on a multitude of topics. Great read.
