Review: Great camera and well priced helping of Canon's DSLR technology - Overall I found this camera produced great images and was a joy to control, I really think Canon's pedigree in cameras shines through with a well thought out and capable camera at a very competitive price. Very small & lightweight – I found the 1200D very light when equipped with the EF-S 18-55 kit lens, the lightness of the camera meant I could carry it all day. Can use all Canon's EF & EF-S lenses – This is great there are so many lenses for this camera from Canon, Tamron, Sigma, Tokina. Good LCD screen – Bright and sharp, easy to review your photos, daylight visible. Gets exposure right – I find the exposure/metering to be very good, rarely do I get burnt out or dark shots. Good control buttons – I found the functions I need regularly, had dedicated buttons, for example exposure compensation + or – This helps to work quickly and creatively with this camera. Good ISO (low light) performance – Image noise at high ISO was quite well controlled, usable up to ISO1600. Good auto focus (AF) – I found the auto focus quick and reliable, even in low light conditions. Great battery life – shoot all day, no problem. Fast slick user interface – All buttons and menus respond instantly with no lag, menus and controls show real thought has gone in. Sharp lens – I found the EF-S 18-55 f/3.5=5.6 III lens very sharp over the whole zoom range.
Review: Great cheap DSLR camera for beginners - Purchased as a backup camera to use alongside my D5sr. It's a basic camera for sure. There's not much there in the way of functions. It as all the expected modes Aperture priority, Shutter priority, Macro, Manual and full auto. Without going for second hand gear (which may actually well be a very good option at this price point) this is the cheapest DSLR on the market at this time. Which is exactly why I bought it. If you're a beginner and don't need all the bells and whistles with a zillion focus points then this will be the perfect camera to learn on. APSC sensor size which will give you a 1.6 crop factor (This means when you're working out focal lengths for lenses you will need to times the focal length by 1.6 to give you a truer effective focal length. So a 50mm f/1.8 lens would be: 50mm x 1.6 = 80mm effective. This will be helpful if you are thinking about buying lenses too.) A good first choice for this camera is the canon 24mm 2.8 STM. 18 mega pixels is nothing to sniff at either when coupled with the kit lens you can get some really stunning results! Sure you'll probably want to get some better lenses and things in the future as the image quality can be further improved with optically better glass but the kit lens isn't terrible or anything it's not bad at all actually.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the difference between the III Lens and the IS II Lens please?**
A: Hello, I thought the same thing when I bought it. The IS II Lens is an older type of lens with Image Stability. The III Lens is the newest type of lense but doesn't include image stability. I went with the III Lens because it was a lot cheaper and I found the Image Stability unuseful for what I needed it for. (A level Photography) Hope I helped. :)

**Q: What is the difference between the III Lens and the IS II Lens please?**
A: Both lenses have the same focal length (18-55mm) and aperture range. The key difference is the IS II lens features Canon's image stabilisation system. This means the lens can actively compensate for small vibrations/movements when the camera is hand-held. Image stabilisation means that you can use slower shutter speeds and still get a sharp image. One point to note is that IS should be turned off when using a tripod - as it can actually work against you and give a blurred image! As the IS system can be switched off I would suggest going for the IS lens as it will help ensure crisp, blur-free images.

**Q: Would this be a good starter camera for astrophotography with time lapse and long exposures**
A: I have had this camera for about a year, my main interest is astrophotography. I have found it to be very good indeed, I have been getting equally good shots with the kit lens as those with much more expensive equipment. You will have to take your time and be prepared for a lot of duff shots. However once you get used to the settings you can take some remarkable shots.

**Q: Will this cammera be good for high speed sports photography?**
A: It is possible for your to capture fast moving subjects, but this camera is not really built for sports photography. This camera will product 3 frames per second, where as something like the 70d will produce 7 frames per second. This camera also has far less focal points that the cameras above it.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic Entry-Level DSLR
*by D***O on 12 July 2016*

I decided to purchase the 1200D to get myself acquainted with the basics of photography and wasn't let down. For the price, you really can't beat it. I have owned this Camera for about 5 months and have taken it all over the world and it hasn't let me down. As with any DSLR, this camera has all that you really need to get started with photography (whether it be portraits, landscape, etc). When you buy this, do yourself a favor and take it off of auto mode and go straight to Aperture Priority as it gives you much more control of your exposures. Want a long exposure? Switch it to Shutter Priority (or Manual Mode). I use it primarily for Landscape Photography and it works good with the kit lense. There are however a couple downsides to its current design. The first being that there is no mic input so you are limited to the built-in microphone if you are making videos. Secondly, the kit lense that comes with this rotates on the end where you may be using filters. I use a circular polarizer a lot and the constant readjustment needed after focusing can be a bit tedious. Lastly, this camera body is not water sealed, so any accumulated rain/water that gets on it, should be cleared off quickly. That being said, for this price, you still get your moneys worth considering it is Canon, so you get a well built product. As soon as you start exploring other lenses, you will be really happy with your DSLR purchase. The images I have attached are taken ONLY WITH THE KIT LENSE. Take a look, and tell me that this camera isn't worth the great price to get you started in photography!
