Finally pulled the trigger, and did it. I covered up an ugly water pipe in my front yard with a fake rock then wanted to landscape around it. Worked great, took me about 4-5 hours one Saturday. I piled it up about as thick and wide as the trowel, then slid it back and forth over it to define the shape. Added and removed some as needed for a uniform look. 1 part portland cement to 4 parts sand. Add water until you get thick cake batter texture. Colored it to match my existing professionally installed curb, I used the integral concrete color from Home Depot. Little jars of powder. I bought a texture roller and release powder, attempted to stamp it with an impression. That did not seem to work for me. It sort of made the whole thing crack (had to reshape the whole area I rolled) so I accepted that I would just have to do it without it the impression. I’m very happy with the results and I did it for a fraction of the cost a pro would charge. Review: Fine For A Small Job - It did the job, which was a 15 foot curb. It is pretty scuffed up on the inside though after that, so it probably isn't going to hold up for a big job. But then, how big of a job would one really do with a small hand-held curb shaper? It could be a bit more rigid.
