## Description

Product Description Mission 778X Integrated Amplifier - Revisit a Classic! Founded in the 1970s as a company dedicated to acoustic innovation and development, Mission is a brand that purveys lifestyle audio that fuses Hi-Fi heritage with contemporary design. Music leads, technology follows. Always… With an engineering-led approach to product development that has resulted in some of the most popular and iconic hi-fi products, Mission is one of Britain’s best-loved audio brands. Mission continues to stretch the boundaries of what can be achieved at specific pricepoints, pioneering technologies to create fresh, new designs. Over the past 45 years, Mission has become famed for loudspeakers that break the norms of pricepoint, technology and design. Yet, in its illustrious history, Mission was also responsible for some equally prolific hi-fi electronics. Thus, the Mission 778X is a revisit of a classic Mission amplifier concept that was the Mission 778 - an affordable integrated amplifier that offered simplicity in operation but over-performed in the driving of loudspeakers. Today’s Mission 778X maintains the influence of simplistic operation, large tractile controls and a multitude of inputs. It’s a compact, '80s inspired integrated amplifier that is fully equipped to meet the demands of modern music lovers, from vinyl fans to digital streamers. Modern twists, such as LED level indicators and all-encompassing connectivity options, make the 778X a truly contemporary integrated amplifier. Boasting a genuine 65 watts (@4 ohms) of power via an utterly modern and refined signal path, to standards akin to the exemplary standards to which Mission loudspeakers are developed A custom power supply and noise-free signal path are at the core, around which the technologically advanced input stages are implemented to offer the plethora of connectivity options that help make the 778X such a versatile and encompassing integrated amplifier. The phono stage is based around a JFET-based circuit with precise RIAA equalisation. It’s optimised for MM cartridges and as such, it’s a high-quality, low-noise input that eliminates any need for an additional phono pre-amp. Complementing the typical RCA line inputs are digital and coax connection options and a built-in Bluetooth receiver with an aptX and AAC codec, meaning the 778X offers CD performance via Bluetooth wireless connection. The convenience of streaming music from smart devices, such as phones, tablets or PCs have never sounded so good! That’s not all in terms of digital music facilitation. The 778X is also equipped with a high-performance ESS ES9018K2M Reference chip with ESS Technology’s 32-bit HyperStream architecture and Time Domain Jitter Eliminator. In the world of digital music files, this means the 778X offers class-leading, ultra-low noise digital audio file compatibility, with a sampling rate of up to 384kHz (PCM) and DSD256! Not just loudspeaker ready, the 778X also features a dedicated headphone amplifier functionality. Compatible with a wide range of impedances and headphone types. The performance of the 778X could be described as dynamic, accurate and provides a wonderful open soundstage. However, as Mission engineers would prefer, and in line with the overall concept, it is far simpler to highlight that the 778X will simply bring life to your loudspeakers, showing the detail of the performance with an energy that will make your music shine as the artist intended Looks Familiar, Sounds Better, Does More Inspired by the 1980’s Mission 778, the 778X is bang up to date in style and spec. It offers a plethora of inputs to accommodate almost any combination of audio equipment – analogue or digital. Capitalising on the modern-day trends of traditional styling with value in pedigree, the Mission 778X echoes a long-lost legacy in home audio, with stunning aesthetics. Phono Ready Optimised for moving magnet cartridges, the JFET-based circuit offers precise RIAA equalisation in accordance with de facto industry standards for vinyl record playback. DACs the Way Utilising the acclaimed ES9018K2M Sabre32 Reference chip with ESS Technology’s 32-bit HyperStream architecture and Time Domain Jitter Eliminator, the Mission 778X offers ultra-low noise, a high dynamic range of digital audio files with a sampling rate of up to 384kHz (PCM) and DSD256 Headphone Stage Equal in performance to standalone headphone amplifiers, beyond the priceclass of this complete system, the design offers high-speed output signal transition thanks to a high slew rate. The result is a dynamic, detailed and engaging performance with all manner of headphone types. Labour of Love The Mission 778X ’s all round performance is engaging, detailed and refined. Detail, timing and dynamics excel, regardless of source or medium. Designed for the modern-day music enthusiast with a nod to our heritage, the Mission 778X does not discriminate when it comes to expression and enjoyment of your music reproduction. Technical Specifications

Review: Solid, sleek and tactile integrated amp. - The 778X has a confidence-inducing weight, it's steel body and controls really make the amp feel as though it was built like old audio gear; the versatile I/O options are convenient. I often feel as though a lot of products made today get let down by their build quality, even when going up the price ranges; the 778X, whilst not crazy expensive or cheap, is built as I would hope it would be for around £550. It's solid, dense-feeling and will last if treated properly. With regards to sound, the amp paired with a pair of Klipsch R-50M speakers, sounds warm; the low-ends are punchy, the mids are detailed and the highs are clear and low-noise. The dedicated phono input is very nice to have, in addition to a bunch of line-level and digital inputs, not to forget the Bluetooth, which is obviously not going to sound nearly as good as wired lossless sources. Vinyl sounds good, local hi-res lossless FLAC or WAV files (mostly pop, K-Pop, city Pop, jazz, indie-pop/rock) sound awesome; the amp and dac are impressed me with how well they handled insane resolutions and bit-rate files. The built-in 6.35mm headphone output, paired with my ATH-M50X over-ear monitors sounds more analytical and sharp compared to the Klipsch speakers; which is to be expected. Good to know, as it means the warmth observed during playback via the R-50Ms isn't applicable to all output devices. I strongly recommend, for anyone considering the 778X for a music listening system, to make sure your input devices and audio sources are better than mere MP3 files streamed through Spotify; as you wouldn't be taking advantage of anywhere near what the amp can handle. Ultimately the mix of design and construction of older audio equipment, combined with modern interfaces and features makes it a very good fit for someone who values UI, practicality and aesthetic appeal (if you like the brutalist/minimalist vibe).
Review: Plenty of digital inputs/outputs. Quality sound. Good when paired with Mission speakers. - Very good amplifier,it replaced my Audiolab 8000a that I had had for 30 years.
