They don't cause sweating. They are quite thick and medium firm in the padding. The fabric is a medium grade of nylon or similar, fairly strong weave. There's a plastic piece riveted onto the padding. You wear them with the wider part uppermost, and they fit without restricting movement. I haven't had experience of them in an accident but would expect the hard shell to protect well against grazing and the quite firm padding to absorb impact. So quite pleased.
