Light for light contamination, medium for medium contamination and heavy for heavy contamination. The heavier the clay the more of chance there is for you to marr and damage the paint. For optimal use of the clay bar, any bar medium and above should be followed by a Polish as to remove marring and scratching left by the clay bar. Does gray one work better for this?** A: Clay bars do not take paint scratches off. They take off impurities above the paint surface. A scratch is in/below the surface. Using the clay bar appropriately, will not damage the plastic headlights. The product is designed to remove contaminates, not create larger issues.The other factor is the condition of the headlights. Over time the plastic can become porous, in which the overspray may become lodge in the small pockets. It is difficult to remove with any clay bar.
