## Description

The origin story continues on GOTHAM: MAD CITY and the stakes are higher than ever, as Super Villains more ambitious and depraved are introduced, and a realignment of alliances shakes up the fight for power in Gotham City. With the Indian Hill escapees on the loose, Jim Gordon (series star BEN McKENZIE) must take matters into his own hands as a bounty hunter in Gotham, making it his mission to find Hugo Strange (recurring guest star BD WONG), the mastermind behind the horrifying Indian Hill experiments, and Fish Mooney (special guest star JADA PINKETT SMITH), one of Strange's subjects. Meanwhile, Gotham City Police Detective Harvey Bullock (series star DONAL LOGUE) and Captain Nathaniel Barnes (series star MICHAEL CHIKLIS) remain at the forefront of the fight against crime in the monster-ridden city. Also, a young Bruce Wayne (series star DAVID MAZOUZ), with the help of his trusted butler and mentor, Alfred Pennyworth (series star SEAN PERTWEE) and former Wayne Enterprises employee, Lucius Fox (series star CHRIS CHALK) discovers there are still more secrets to uncover regarding his parents' murders as he peels back the curtain on the infamous criminal organization known as the Court of Owls. As the city sinks deeper into chaos, GOTHAM continues to follow the evolving stories of the city's most malevolent villains: The Penguin (series star ROBIN LORD TAYLOR), Edward Nygma/The Riddler (series star CORY MICHAEL SMITH), Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman (series star CAMREN BICONDOVA), Barbara Kean (series star ERIN RICHARDS), Tabitha Galavan aka Tigress (series star JESSICA LUCAS), and Butch Gilzean (series star DREW POWELL). The series also catches up with the future Poison Ivy (new series regular MAGGIE GEHA), who, after an Indian Hill encounter, finds herself reborn as a young woman who's harnessed the full power of her charms. In addition, GOTHAM dives into the origin stories of the Tweed Brothers and Jervis Tetch aka Mad Hatter (new series regular BENEDICT SAMUEL), a talented hypnotist, teetering on the edge of madness.

Review: Thine own self - A six disc dvd box set containing all twenty two episodes of the third season of Gotham. The Batman prequel show, charting Bruce Wayne and various other characters we are familiar with from the comics came to be. There is a fair amount of backstory in the show, so new viewers should start with season one. Once again as with earlier years, this show can be quite violent at times, thus this is a fifteen certificate dvd. All episodes run forty minutes in length. [Approx]. The season starts six months after the end of the last one. Jim Gordon is now back in Gotham, working as a bounty hunter. The escapees from Indian Hill are causing chaos. Barbara's power in the underworld is on the rise. The mysterious organisation who controlled Hugo Strange's research are under investigation by Bruce. And a hypnotist called Jervis Tetch comes to town. Everyone in Gotham is about to discover who they really are, and what they can become... Usually when a show gets to it's third season, all involved know exactly what they're doing, and thus it will produce a very consistent run where even the lesser episodes are time well spent. And that is the case here. There are no storylines of the week. Just ongoing plot strands which it juggles very well indeed. All with the central theme of moving these characters forward as they develop and grow and change. As before, Robin Lord Taylor as the Penguin and Cory Michael Smith as Ed do command the attention with utterly superb performances. You can't take your eyes off them when on screen. Other highlights are the Bullock Lucius Fox relationship, the latter now at the gcpd. Making an excellent foil for Harvey at times. Bruce and Selina have some excellent emotional moments, and Sean Pertwee does some superb action when Alfred shows how much he cares for his charge. As with season two though Gordon is a bit difficult to like at times, as he charges round too often like a bull in a china shop throwing tantrums when he doesn't get his own way. And his relationship with Lee isn't the most interesting one ever. But this is something the season does fully adddress, so it will be interesting to see what he's like in year four. We get tv versions of the Mad Hatter and the Court of Owls, who are very well done. And Ivy grows up rather fast. It's a bit of a shame to lose the original, but the version here is quite appealing. The season does build up a great momentum in the final stretch, with a run of episodes that come very close to being 10/10 ones. The final one isn't quite as strong as those as all the budget for big crowds and set pieces seems to have gone by then, but that's only a minor complaint. This is an excellent run for a show that has got to the top of it's game. Languages and subtitles on the dvds are: Languages: English. Subtitles: English, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish. It comes with the usual flyer with a code to use to download a digital copy of the season to a digital device. Extras are: Deleted scenes. You can choose to watch them as per the episodes they come from via an icon on the episode menu. Or all in a row for each disc. Some of them have two, some one, and some three. If watched in a row none of them are more than three mins in total. The ones on the first three discs are short and not important, but there are some on the later ones that are quite interesting. Particularly the one on disc six, as it does make something clearer than the episode did. Featurettes: Disc three has: the new villains of Gotham. A nine minute long look at the new foes of this season. It does go into detail about the creative process for each, thus is pretty interesting. Disc six has: Ben McKenzie directoral debut. A two min long look at the making of an episode which the actor who plays Gordon directed. It does have a couple of interesting moments but is far too short to have much impact. The court of owls: an eleven min long look at how these characters were done for the show. This is interesting but does rather lose direction in the later stage. 2016 comic con panel: twenty six mins of some of the cast and writers, prior to the season three premiere, answering questions at comic con. It's a fun watch
Review: a great addition to the batman collection - a great series, excellent caracters and actors, very good storys

a great series, excellent caracters and actors, very good storys

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rise of Freaks
*by E***A on 25 September 2017*

I've been a fan of "Gotham" since Season 1. I'm in love with Batman and his world, so I was curious to watch this origin story. The series has improved a lot throughout the years and I think that Season 3 was better than Season 2, which was good too. Season 3 deals with different storylines: the political rise of Oswald Cobblepot (and of his counselor Edward Nygma), the consequences of Indian Hill's disaster and Jim's Gordon complex journey into darkness. Gotham City is becoming a "city of freaks" and soon it will need a protector who will take the enforcement of law into his own hands. I think the best part of the series are the villains: the actors are great and they portray these creepy criminals with strength and intensity. The Mad Hatter in particular is AMAZING and Benedict Samuel's performance is breathtaking. A lot of elements and characters are taken from the comic-books, but they're developed in a unusual way. The DVD box set is as good as always. Can't wait to watch Season 4! A Dark Knight is coming.
