This Masterplug extension reel seemed to fit the bill. When I got it, the first thing I noticed was how solid it felt. It's got a really sturdy frame and a high-vis cable that's a bright green, which is great because it's much harder to trip over it. Using it is pretty straightforward. You just unwind the length of cable you need, plug it into a socket, and you're ready to go. It has four sockets, which is plenty for what I need, and there's a power indicator light so you know it's on. I've used it for my electric mower and a pressure washer, and it handles them both perfectly well.
