Washable inks (e.g. Parker "washable blue" Quink) can be washed out of clothing, whereas "permanent" inks generally cannot and will stain clothes. Neither are waterproof. Generally speaking, the properties that make an ink waterproof make it unsuitable for use in fountain pens. When people wrote with dip nibs and quills Indian ink was more common and that IS waterproof, but it will wreck a fountain pen. Indian ink uses shellac or gum arabic as a binder and this will clog the feed on a fountain pen but won't hurt a dip pen. If you want to use truly permanent ink for writing, you need to buy a pen and dip nibs, or make a quill. **Q: Is the ink thick?** A: No. Very thin. I was disappointed **Q: Can this be used for dip pens?** A: Fountain pen ink works fine with dip nibs. My preference is to write with a dip pen (really, it is) and I use Parker Quink with it on a daily basis. If anything, it's better than "calligraphy" ink since it's a lot easier to clean the nib when you're finished - just a wipe does it. **Q: Does this ink bleed when a water wash is applied over it??** A: It does.
