A 2.5 inch would have been perfect. But I've received a 3 inch brace. I bought this for controlling snoring and it kind of works. Basically when you are sleeping on your back, the lower jaw loosens and opens up as you fall asleep. This is why we start snoring. Wearing a neck brace like this holds the jaw and keeps the mouth closed. There are other face/chin straps for this. But I didn't find them comfortable. This one seems to do the job well. Just be careful about the size and softness when buying so that it is not uncomfortable while sleeping. After 6 months wearing a Miami J hard cervical collar w/o a break, the neurosurgeon ok came- segway to a soft collar. MANY MANY MANY soft collars were researched, purchased, given a trial run, and ultimately returned to AMAZON. When hope seemed all but elusive, this collar saved the day. It is comfortable enough to wear for a stretch of time- several hours and to sleep in- not itchy, the Velcro closure easy enough to affix by an older shaky senior and it assisted allowing neck muscles to regain & recover strength to hold the head up. This collar comes in several sizes- the 2.5 inch size worked best in our case. Also, bone stimulator electrodes were worn under this soft collar w/o no real problems of displacement.
