The padding fairly firm and lightly pebbled. Our little one had a blowout and it took me probably 5 minutes of scrubbing HARD with a magic eraser to get it off. For that reason, we now leave a folded receiving blanket on the scale at all times. The mounts that hold the rubber padded feet are made of very delicate plastic. If you move the scale across a counter or surface, you have to LIFT and PlACE it to avoid breaking them. When one of the feet broke on our scale, we reached out to Hatch via chat and they offered to replace it totally free and had us simply discard the broken unit. When the replacement arrived, it also had a broken foot. We contacted them again via chat and they again sent out a replacement. We had to update the scale's firmware through the app but once we did that, we're up and running again.
