Then after looking closer I saw that they are reverse threaded. so to loosen them, you actually need to twist them as if you were going to tighten it. not sure why they made them like this, but thats why you could not get them undone. **Q: Are the tips replaceable ?** A: no, but ive used one for several months and it showing no wear. just be sure to replace caps when not in use. they are really cheap enough to replace the unit rather than try to repair **Q: How long can paint or leather dye be stored in the pen without drying out?** A: I have been keeping my leather dyes, and a 50/50 mix of Tokenole and water in these markers for over a year now and they have not lost any moisture. they screw down nice and tight (reverse threads on them!), and the cap fits over the nib very tightly too. I have noticed that the cap does get some condensation built up inside of it, but not too much and the nib has never dried out . They have exceeded my expectations so far! **Q: What kind of paint works best with this product?** A: I'm currently using them with dye for leather and they work great, as far as the best paint to use with them I'm unsure but it would have to be pretty thin like ink for sharpie markers,? I am a quilter and I use them to apply Mary Ellen's Best Press to quilt block seams to make them unbelievably flat! Just remove the ball bearings, fill the tank with Best Press fluid, and pump the tip until the liquid dampens it. Then when you open a seam or press it to one side, just dab or swipe the applicator tip across the sewn seam and press. Hold the iron still for 5-15 seconds until the moisture dries and presto!! you have the flattest seams you have even seen. This works well even on junctions of HST blocks. Works better even than a clapper.
