## Description

BIGTREETECH Octopus V1.1 Control Board 32bit Silent Board Compatible TMC2209, TMC2240, TMC2208, TMC5160 Stepper Driver, Support DIY Klipper and Raspberry-Pi Online Printing for Voron 3D Printer

Review: Fantastic choice for a custom 3D printer build! - This board is great! I built a custom 3D printer last summer and this was the largest purchase I had to make, but it works flawlessly. It has plenty of headers for stepper motor drivers, which I needed because my machine has three independent Z axis motors, two for XY movement, and one for the extruder for a total of six stepper motors. With TMC-2209 drivers installed, the noise is comparable to my old sender 3 V2 printer, but it’s possible that I may be able to tune the printer to run at a lower noise level through the firmware. I don’t think this is a fault of the board, but of my specific use case. The board was relatively easy to install initially because I knew how all the main connectors were supposed to look beforehand. However, the documentation for this board was somewhat difficult to understand, and required a bit of extra research which I personally don’t mind. I appreciate the option to choose the voltage of each fan header, because I can use larger fans to cool this board and the other electronics near it, and smaller fans for the extruder and air circulation. I definitely recommend this board for a custom 3D printer build! It was easy to flash firmware to it via USB and it works well with a Raspberry Pi 4, if you’d like to go that direction.
Review: Confusing, but worth the effort. - The board was confusing as heck to flash new firmware on. Little to no documentation that works. But after a 3 day stent of throwing everything at it but the kitchen sink it finally flashed. It runs great and handled everything I have put it through so far with ease. Great Board.

## Features

- Main Control Chip: Uses a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M4 series STM32F446ZET6 main control chip with a core frequency of 180MHz
- Strong DIY Support: This motherboard supports up to 8 stepper drivers with 9 stepper driver outputs in total; And up to 6 PWM fans and 2 always-on fans with the ability to individually select the voltage rail that will drive each fan. Select from Vin, 12V or 5V

## Questions & Answers

**Q: ac or dc?**
A: I prefer Motley Crew. But the board uses DC

**Q: Whats the difference between "v1.1" & "v1.1 only" ? thanks**
A: v1.0 had minor silkscreen errors which mislabeled a pin on the underside of the board. I think the v1.1 may include some of that stock, while 'v1.1 only' would only be the updated model.

**Q: Does this require a Raspberry pi to print or can it just be connected to a computer?**
A: If you run Marlin or reprap firmware then no you do not need a raspberry pi. If you intend to use klipper then a pi is a requirement. By default I believe it comes with Marlin.

**Q: what firmware is pre installed with this board and can it be used without upgrade?**
A: I don't think any firmware is installed from factory. It has to be downloaded from big tree's website or other and installed on the board.

### ⭐ DOA out of the box
*by R***S on 6 March 2022*

Could not flash firmware to the board. All LEDs are lit up red and hitting the reset button does nothing. Looks like the board never had a bootloader installed. I can connect to it via putty and see it with "lsusb" but will fail to flash the firmware. When you try to load it via micro USB, the LED lights up as it sees the card but no status flashing as if it was flashing. The firmware file never changes to "firmware.CUR". I filed for a replacement, I hope the next board works.
