That’s exactly what happened to me with this book. I picked it up without knowing it would become one of my favorite reads from last year. The letters in this story were both heartwarming and heartbreaking, and the chemistry and emotional tension in both love stories were intense. Though I anticipated certain parts of the ending, I couldn’t help but wish for things to turn out well for everyone. This book made me feel as if I were mourning the loss of a real person—it made me cry, laugh, shatter my heart, and ultimately heal it. Each love story was written with such beauty, and I’m so grateful that some characters found the happy ending they deserved. The way the struggles, pain and separation caused by wars were conveyed made me feel everything the characters were experiencing.
