The rubber friction brake is not ideal for speeds exceeding 8-10mph. Using these brakes presents two problems: 1- You have to completely straighten your leg (reduces bloodflow/fainting risk) AND put yourself off balance to use it. 2- Once you start braking, it's VERY difficult to transition back to a position of maneuverability. This is in no way akin to depressing a car's brake pedal. With a little practice, you'll find that the wheels are much better for stopping you. Bubble-wrapping yourself and belly flopping the pavement is likely a safer alternative to using a pencil eraser. **Q: If I wear a 10.5 shoe will the 10's work for me?** A: No, always size up or they wont fit. These skates come with really bad bearings but that’s normal to upgrade those. The only thing I don’t like is the buckles are cheap and I’ll break them soon. But I really skate a lot. The liner is thin and close to the boot. Very very lite For the price they are amazing!
