Everything was initially cleaned using a standard cleaner and kilz but smell remained. Power washed appliances, cleaned all fixtures, switch covers, knobs, light bulbs, cupboards, walls, ceilings, windows, heating vents and covers. Replaced all carpeting with plank flooring. But still smelled. Quote from professional remediator was in the thousands (plus I found out we had already done their step1!) for fancy negative air pressure cleaning, which was their step 2. I asked what step 3 was, and they said a specialized degreaser ( cigarettes contain tar) and step 4 was encapsulating paint. I searched degreasing cleaners and found a Benefect wholesaler who conveniently included the logo of the nationally known remediator as a client. Bought one gallon for under $6000 dollars (step 2) used this product in its recommended dilution and!!! Clean as a whistle. And we still have most of the bottle left. Worth every single penny.
