After taking roughly 15 samples, and grinding on a couple rocks, the edge doesn't appear any more nicked up than when it was received. The samples were for turf, in high clay soil, and were only 4 inches deep so I can't attest to anything deeper. My biggest complaint is that It DOES NOT have any markings that would indicate depth as mentioned in the product description (Bullet point 3 says "..it is marked at 7.87 intervals to indicate sampling depth..").
