I first tried a manual vacuum that connected to the filter intake, but the filter struggled with it (like trying to suck water through a REALLY long straw) and it was a hassle to set up and use. Then I tried a self powered vacuum that attached to a pole...this worked better but was a lot of work and time consuming because you constantly had to stop and clean out the small debris filter. Our Intex pool has sloped edges, I was worried about this causing the Dolphin to tip over or have problems. This hasn't happened...the Dolphin is totally stable and a happy discovery was that even though this model is not designed to do so...the sloped sides allow the Dolphin to climb the walls pretty well. One downside is that because of the shape of the corners of the pool and the size of the Dolphin, it can't really reach all the way into the corners...I had to use a brush to push the debis out of the corners for the Dolphin to grab. I've seen a couple complaints about the Dolphin doing "wheelies" all the time and not cleaning because of this. Ours does do wheelies every now and then...but I'm pretty sure this is by design. From watching it, it seems to do wheelies as a method of changing direction. It'll pop up on it's back wheels, turn, then lay back down and keep going. Another complaint I've seen is in regards to the filter basket not catching small particles. Based on those complaints I went ahead and ordered the additional "ultra-fine" filter (which is made of a papery mesh material, similar to a pool cartridge filter). In hindsight, I don't think I needed to buy that. I don't know for sure but I "think" they may have upgraded the included filter at some point as the standard filter has no problem catching algae particles and the regular "pool scum" type stuff. The included filter basket is not made with the same "pool cartridge" material, but does still have a very fine screen that seems to get everything. I have not even tried the additional filter as I haven't needed it. So anyhow...they're expensive compared to many options. But if you like having a very clean pool with little effort...this is the way to go! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ JUST ORDERED MY SECOND UNIT *by B***R on July 20, 2023* I just ordered another unit because my 6 y. o. E-10 just died. My original unit was called an "Echo" but the3y look identical. But you must realize that here in S. FL I clean my pool twice a week or more, 52 weeks a year and I have many trees and no pool cage. If you live in an area where you close the pool for the winter my use is the equivalence of 12 seasons for you. My pool is an inground 20 x 40 ft (29,000 gals.) gunite pool, which the E-10 is not recommended for but I could not be more pleased with the operation. The unit cleans the pool in one session and climbs right up past the water line. The wire is plenty long but I do have to disconnect it every few weeks and unwind the kinks. If there is a draw back to using E-10 in a pool larger than recommended is that when I have a lot of leaves in the pool, the basket will overflow and some debri will get into the propeller housing or overflow back into the pool. It takes just the removal of a few self tapping screws to get at the pump propeller to clean it out. No biggie. Just clean the basket before the robot completes its cycle if there is a lot of leaves in the pool. Or buy the $1, 500 unit meant for a bigger pool. Now for the bad news. While I could not be more pleased with the robot's cleaning function, the factory support is less than zero. I wore out the 4 wheels and the axle bushings which caused the rubber tracks to fall off and my dealer could not get me replacements. Dealing directly with the factory was also a big zero. When I eventually tracked down replacement parts from EZtestpools they were able to sell me some from stock and ordered me the rest. Although the parts were cheap it took 3 orders and 3 shipping charges to get what I needed. The shipping was as much as the parts. I blame Maytronics for the problems. I was able to find replacement rubber tracks on Amazon for $15.00 a pair while Dolphin wants $60.00. Another note of caution. While many videos show the control unit being left out in the weather DON"T DO IT! It is not weather proof. Also pull the plug out when the cycle is done. The unit still draws power and feels slightly warm to the touch. My unit started shutting off after a few minutes and I opened up the box out of curiosity. Although I did build a deck box to store the unit, there was still a fair amount of corrosion on the circuit board. I resoldered all the connections and bridged a portion of the circuit that looked corroded through. Low and behold that fixed the unit. My latest problem is the unit will not turn on. The blue light goes out as soon as you let go of the button. If I disconnect the wire from the control unit the light will stay on. I assume the wire, motor or both has leaked and parts would run over $400.00 if they are available. I am guilty of leaving the robot in the pool after use. Sometimes all week. I was not happy with the wire from the start. The insulation started cracking after 1 year. It was mostly cosmetic but got really bad lately. I have been told that the extended warranty is worthless because you have to return the unit to them and they can't get parts either. One last thing. The robot removes debri and scrubs the surface of the pool. If you have cloudy water check your chemicals and clean your pool filter. I hear they have an optional fine filter basket but I have not tried it. My pool filter keeps the water clear.
