Review: Stanley stud deter - Few to choose from out there as I am not a professional DIY person did not want an expense device not going to use much. Saw it had mixed reviews but found it to be very accurate for studs and wiring allowing me to mark the areas with blue tape for stud and red for wiring. So I knew it was safe to drill in the right places, highly recommend does the job at a great price.
Review: Not great - No instructions included, seems quite spotty on identifying AC (the reason I bought a "simple" one).

I knew roughly where the studs were. But a bit hit and miss through plaster. But with a bit of patience and perseverance it works but don't expect miracles for a relatively cheap product
