It features a swiveling driver's seat that allows for operation of the backhoe. The front loading arm carries a grip for steering and a locking mechanism in the upper position. The front loading shovel locks into two positions for loading and unloading. The backhoe has fold-down support legs which is also detachable. **Q: How big are these toys?  1:16 scale doesn't tell me much as I am not an engineer.**
A: Katie,We have the Bruder backhoe loader & a bulldozer, both 1:16 scale. This is roughly the size of a jumbo box of tissues, plus some when the parts extend out. Just ballparking, as I can't go measure right now, I'd say the vehicle height is approx 10 inches; length approx 14 inches.Got them when our boy was about 2. Now he's 4. They are good, well-made toy s that don't break easily, unlike so many cheaper toys.

A: I'm not sure, I do not have the 1:16 Bruder man. I can take pictures of the seat area and send them to you if you like. My son still loves this toy by the way!

**Q: Our playground has woodchips instead of sand... How will it handle scooping woodchips?**
A: As long as the chips are not too big it will work fine, our 2 little construction workers aged 5 and 2 spend hours with their Bruder machines, usually digging in the dirt by the garden.
