I bought it with one grandchild, who worries a bit about new things, in mind. But it's a great story for all kids about being willing to try new things even if they are a little scary. The illustrations are gorgeous. I find myself stopping during the story just to look at the colors and details in the illustrations and to point them out to my grandkids. After receiving this book and seeing how beautiful the pictures are I came back to desertcart hoping that the author/illustrator had more books like this for sale. But this seems to be the first that she has both authored and illustrated. I hope she does more. However, based on the title, I should have known this book was not about going to school, but about being brave and trying new things. So, even though, it didn't directly discuss school, it still helped prepare her for school. Moreover, it helps in other situations too. For example, as we were walking into the dentist's office for her first ever visit, she told me "I'm going to be brave". The book is also gorgeous and super fun to read aloud. You get to yell, scream, act scared, etc. It makes for an engaging book. Finally, I have looked for more work by this author at our local library, but they don't have any of her books. My guess is because it's an author from the UK, I believe? Anyway, my point is you might not find this book in the library, so buying it might be the only way to read it together.
