I got a 20k-ohm model; when I hook it to my multimeter - nothing! Is it defective? (My meter is working fine, based on fixed resistor...)

Are you reading anything between any terminals? Not to question your ability ( I did this myself) are you in the correct range? With 10 turns the resistance will vary a little. Do you have 20k between the end terminals?

Are there any installation instructions for this? We've tried to use them, but they don't come with install instructions.
