Staples work fine
I read the review from Jack Albritton, which he said the staples did fit the gun. I was having a similar problem, I was trying to load the staples like you do an Arrow staple gun from the rear and they wouldn’t load. Even rereading the instructions did help. Once I watched a YouTube video it became clear that you load the staples from the bottom, not the rear.
