The leads are not shielded. You would also have to correct the impedance. This probe uses a simple voltage-divider resistor network to do its magic. Good luck! **Q: Could this be use to probe the residual high voltage in a CRT monitor (and to dissipate it)?** A: Yes, definitely. The probe's input resistance in 1G-ohm (1000 M-ohm). With a typical 500pF filter capacitance in the CRT HV power supply, the discharge rate will be 0.5 seconds to discharge to 37% of the original voltage, 1 second to 37% of that, etc. After 5 seconds there will be only a couple of volts remaining. BE SURE to attach the ground clip to the metal chassis of the CRT device whether or not the probe is connected to a meter. To be completely safe, wait a minute after discharging then repeat the process. The glass in the CRT "absorbs" some charge and can recharge the filter capacitor to a few hundred volts. **Q: can it measure 12 volt vehicle ignition coils?** A: I could not say for sure. But the probe does indeed measure DC voltage up to 40,000 volts. So you should be able to set your meter that you have the probe plugged into and make the measurement, by setting your meter to read DC volts.
