So if you aren't sure if it heard you correctly you can look at what it heard on the screen. You can also show the written translation to somebody in case they can't hear or understand the translator. It saves a long text history of the last translations so you can refer back. You can also erase them if you don't want people to see the history. * You can push the button again within 30 seconds of the last translation and it will repeat it. * Good overall design. LOOK & FEEL - The device looks sleek and is not too heavy to carry. Black suits it well and it has a single circular button for translation on one side and the charging port on the other side. The volume controls are near the translation button and when charging, the white ring blinks until it is completely charged. SETUP - You need to download the app and bring the device near your phone to get connected. The device NEEDS an active internet connection for it to work. Once connected, you don't need to keep the app open and phone can be closed. All settings like change of languages and volume control are present in the app. USAGE - It's pretty simple to use. Just press and talk near the device and it will translate it to the base language of your choice. PROS: 1. I tested 3 languages I knew and expected the device voice to be robotic but was surprised with the slang of the response. It was almost identical to how it is spoken locally 2. The translation of the words is not 100% but is pretty decent 3. When traveling, using the device will save phone battery 4. It's safer to hand the device to a stranger than your phone 5. Having translations for 42 languages is nice 6. In a quiet environment, the device was able to pick sounds from a distance of 30 feet, which is nice 7. No need to power off and battery seems to be holding for a good amount of time CONS: 1. This is not a standalone device and requires to be connected to a phone with active internet connection 2. All language settings has to be done through the app 3. Would be nice to have the response routed to a connected Bluetooth device but currently the volume comes only through the device 4. The charging cable is not generic and so if you lose or damage it, then there is no way to charge the device unless you get a new cable 5. For the price, the benefits of having this doesn’t do that much justice Having said that, the device does what it’s supposed to do – real time transalation, many languages and mostly error free.
