The gold color matched the picture, which was important because the other switch in that gang box was also gold and I wanted the switches to match. The switch installs the same as any dimmer switch. Black wire to feed, Red wire to the lights. Optional second red wire if used as a 3-way switch, and a green wire to ground. The switch is thicker/deeper than a standard switch, about the same as other dimmers, so make sure you have enough room in your box for the wires.
