Review: My toddler loves this! - This set is really fun and engaging, and it’s been a big hit. The surprise element makes it exciting for kids, and the colorful gems keep their attention while they play. It’s great for sorting, counting, and simple learning activities, which makes it both entertaining and educational for toddlers. The pieces are a good size for little hands and easy to handle. Overall, it’s a fun learning toy that kids enjoy and keeps them busy while also supporting early learning skills. Review: Fun, Educational, and Perfect for Early STEM Skills - The Learning Resources Rock 'n Gem Surprise Activity Set is a fantastic learning tool for young children. It’s engaging, colorful, and provides a hands-on way for kids to develop sorting, matching, and counting skills. My 2.5-year-old daughter loves it, and I can see how it helps her build important cognitive abilities while having fun. Pros: Bright and Engaging Design: The vibrant colors and shiny "gem" pieces immediately capture a child’s attention. The different shapes and sizes of the gems make sorting and matching activities exciting and visually stimulating. Educational and Developmental: This set is great for teaching early math skills like counting, sorting, and comparing. It also introduces patterns and sequencing in a fun and interactive way. Durable and Safe Materials: The pieces are made from sturdy, high-quality plastic that feels durable and safe for little hands. There are no sharp edges, and the gems are large enough to prevent choking hazards. Versatile Learning Opportunities: In addition to sorting and counting, we’ve used this set for imaginative play. My daughter loves pretending she’s a treasure hunter or jeweler, which adds an extra layer of creative fun. Compact and Easy to Store: With just 19 pieces, the set is easy to store and doesn’t take up much space. It’s also lightweight, making it perfect for travel or playdates. Cons: Limited Number of Pieces: While the 19 pieces are sufficient for basic activities, adding a few more gems or additional shapes would increase the variety and extend playtime. Slightly Simple for Older Kids: For children closer to the upper age range (5+), the activities might feel too basic. However, you can introduce more advanced concepts like simple addition or subtraction to keep it challenging. This activity set has quickly become a favorite in our home. My daughter enjoys sorting the gems by color and shape, and I’ve noticed her improving her counting skills. We also play matching games, which keep her entertained and focused. It’s a great toy for independent play as well as parent-child interaction. ## Features - FINE MOTOR SKILLS PLAY: Build fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination as kids use tools to crack open geodes, making this one of the best fine motor skills toys for preschoolers - SORTING, MATCHING & COUNTING: Practice color sorting toys for toddlers, shape recognition, and counting with manipulatives in 8 colors and 4 shapes for early math development - HANDS-ON STEM LEARNING: Introduces early science toys for toddlers with geology-inspired play while building sensory learning, cause and effect, and preschool learning activities - ENGAGING TODDLER LEARNING: Perfect toddler learning toys and preschool toys 3-5 years that support classroom, daycare, homeschool, and occupational therapy play - NO-MESS ACTIVE PLAY: Reusable geodes snap open again and again for fun sorting games and toddler activities, with easy storage bag for quick cleanup and on-the-go learning ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B07P8WBK9F | | Age Range Description | Kid | | Best Sellers Rank | #3,827 in Toys & Games ( See Top 100 in Toys & Games ) #53 in Sorting & Stacking Toys | | Brand Name | Learning Resources | | Color | Multi | | Customer Reviews | 4.8 out of 5 stars 2,663 Reviews | | Educational Objective | STEM,Hand-Eye Coordination,Motor Skills,Construction Skills,Shape Recognition,Color Recognition,Problem Solving Skills,Sorting Skills,Counting Skills | | Global Trade Identification Number | 00765023028751 | | Included Components | Counter toys | | Indoor Outdoor Usage | Indoor | | Item Dimensions | 10 x 12.1 x 2.8 inches | | Item Highlight | Sorting and Matching for Toddlers, Learn to Sort Colors and Shapes, Fine Motor Skills Toy, Learning Toys for Preschool | | Item Type Name | Rock 'n Gem Surprise | | Item Weight | 0.1 kg | | Manufacturer | Learning Resources | | Manufacturer Part Number | LER2875 | | Manufacturer Warranty Description | No Warranty | | Manufacturer recommended age | 36 months - 15 years | | Material Type | Plastic | | Model Number | LER2875 | | Number of Players | 1 | | Operation Mode | Manual | | Power Source | Hand-powered | | Set Name | Rock 'n Gem Surprise | | Size | Medium | | Supported Battery Types | No batteries required | | Theme | Geology | | UPC | 765023028751 | | Unit Count | 1 Count | ## Images ![Rock 'n Gem Surprise - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71LG40-ACHL.jpg) ![Rock 'n Gem Surprise - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/91xt5VK4ffL.jpg) ![Rock 'n Gem Surprise - Image 3](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/91boRaNylgL.jpg) ![Rock 'n Gem Surprise - Image 4](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81EpKSxccFL.jpg) ![Rock 'n Gem Surprise - Image 5](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/814Jt4yieeL.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Style** options. ## Questions & Answers **Q: Is there a set that is a little more difficult. Would like to get for a 3 yr old but worried she master it too quickly and grow bored. ?** A: My 3 year old granddaughter solved it quickly, but we still had fun putting them back together and repeating the cycle. I've put little notes in one and told her she's got mail somewhere in that bucket. She wasn't bored with it. It helps that mom has closet space to rotate the toys that are boring now and do the same in a few months. That helps too. Also, Discovery has a "Crack your own geode". I bought it on Amazon. You get 10 geodesic in the box. **Q: What size is the “geode” when closed? Looking for the diameter, please.** A: The Geode size is 2". If you have any other questions, please visit us on our Learning Resources site under the "contact us" page and we'll be happy to help. **Q: Can you open this without using the tools?** A: My niece is two and she had to use tool's to open them. She loves them. **Q: Would a six year old still enjoy this?** A: My son got this for his 6th birthday and he loves it. My 9 year old daughter also loves playing with it. My kids like mixing the colors and hide them like Easter eggs through the house. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My toddler loves this! *by K***A on May 26, 2026* This set is really fun and engaging, and it’s been a big hit.
