Depends on how often you shower. I usually replace mine about every three months.

How can this replacement filter fit both sf100 & sf220, when the sf220 is half the size of the sf100 & doesn't have the 12 stages of filters?

The cartridges for the SF100 & SF220 are the same size and are compatible with each other. The SF220 is targeted towards removing harmful impurities and the SF100 helps to reduce impurities, while also infusing the water with beneficial vitamins & minerals.

This works with hot water or its shorten the life of the product?

We have 5 people that use the shower and we change the cartridge every six months. It doesn't matter if you use hot water. We live in the mountains where 9 months a year it is cold and hot showers are required. And all is good.
