Solid choice with good performance
I recently got the freestanding Cosmo kitchen hood, and itโs been working well so far. It looks clean, does a good job with smoke and smells, and isnโt too loud but not very quiet either . Installation was easy, and the lights are helpful while cooking. Overall, a solid and practical choice, the only downside is taking off those blue protectors sticks that are nighttime and I still werenโt able to get all of it off.

Good weekend project to add some elegance to the kitchen
We are happy the new 36" Island Range Hood from Cosmos. Looks great and it was not too hard to install with a helping hand. For those thinking of doing the same DIY project, place tape in the inside of the top opening of the lower baffle to avoid scratching the upper baffle as you move it up and down. Make sure you measure multiple times before installing the top plate as it determines the center of the hood.

House looks newer, cheaper solution to Jenn aire down draft replacement stove
Replaced a 30 year old down draft Jenn aire slide in stove with a whirlpool smooth top slide in stove. Needed a light and ventilation over stove top. Researched found island hoods solve my situation. A new jenn aire downdraft oven is over $4,000 and ventilation for new may need to be reengineered for new jenn aire. Bought a smooth top whirlpool slide in for $600 and vent for $400. Power is a plug in cord, not hard wired. May be installed ventilated or not ventilated using filters. Now I have ventilation and led lights over my stove top to cook. Only frustrating part installing was to remove blue film used to protect the finish until installed. Remove film before installation. One area I was unable to confirm before purchase, will shaft be long enough for 10' ceiling. Works for 10' ceiling, no issues. Little noisy on high, has a strong suction to remove cooking fumes and humidity. Vents removable and dishwasher safe.

Great looking hood
Nice unit that looks great and functions well. It was packaged extremely well and everything was protected with a tough blue film. Some complain about the fan sound, but I found it to be no louder than other exhaust fans I've owned over the years. The instructions overlooked the need for a 1-1/4" hole you have to cut through the support bracket so the electric plug can get into the attic. The hardest part for my installation was the required framing in the attic. Many people complain about removing the blue protective film. I used a fresh sharp razor to cut into the groove on each side of the chimney, followed by a sharp dental tool to scrap it out. It took about 30 minutes. I have an 8' ceiling. I cut the two chimney pieces 11-1/2" long which gave me 36" to the cooktop. I'm very pleased with the purchase and you can't beat the price.

Great Vent Hood for the money
We (wife and I) received the vent hood in a timely manner (a day ahead of schedule even with Christmas rush), we read lots of reviews & decided to install it ourselves. We used YouTube videos for guidance, borrowed a metal cutting tool, and were able to have it installed in about 6 hours, which included rewiring a socket for it. It looks great, and we are very pleased that it has variable speeds and levels of quietness. We are maybe intermediate DIY'ers, so it took time but not great skills. The directions are not very good. Getting the base right is essential, and we had to add a couple of wooden struts in the attic to be sure it was very solid. You need basic electrical wiring skills if you do not have a socket already in place to use. The most unusual thing needed was to cut sheet metal in order to shorten it to the height you need. This went very well with the right tool. It is very helpful to have 2 people at times, but it could be done alone with the right accessories to hold it up in the air while you finish assembly. We made ours the absolute shortest possible at 26" from the ceiling--you could make it less, but you'd have to cut thick metal struts used to suspend it.

Excellent value, especially for the price. Relatively quiet even at max speed. Dual touch panels!
We needed a replacement 36" island hood as our old 2005 GE Monogram finally kicked the bucket. I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg on a "designer" hood so I looked around Amazon for something full stainless with solid reviews and affordable. This Cosmo 3-speed 380CFM unit piqued my interest so I decided to give it a try. It came well packaged in a relatively sturdy box. There were styrofoam inserts to cushion and protect all the components inside. The gauge (thickness) of the SS and finishing is obviously as not good as a high end unit but those cost significantly more. After removing the old GE, my wife and I were able to get it installed within a couple of hours and we were taking our time. It is not a heavy unit so two adults can easily handle it. I'd recommend using a large box or thick dog pad to help cushion the unit as you ready it for lifting. Unfortunately I did make a wiring error (we did not have a regular outlet to plug into so we needed to splice wires) which apparently damaged the control board. We did not learn that until later as the hood started working erratically with flickering LEDs. Upon looking at the board, one could not tell any of the components were damaged. I contacted Cosmo customer service and was able to order a replacement board for $50. That was a smooth process and the board arrived to my doorstep within a week. I have uploaded an image of the original board (bottom) and replacement board (top). As you can see they are identical, just manufactured at different times. As far as functionality, it works very well. Fan speed (F3) is max which we leave it on most of the time and it does a fine job with smoke, steam, and oil removal. Since it is an island hood we still needed additional barriers rigged up to prevent splatter as well as guiding smoke, steam, and oil vapor upwards. The clock/time was easy to set and what's nice about this hood is that you have an LCD screen and touch controls on both sides of the hood. Excellent feature for sure! One thing I didn't care for about this hood is that the LED lighting is not adjustable with too cold (high Kelvin) a color temp. I wish it were brighter with a three stage brightness selector (like my old GE) and could be adjusted for a warmer color temp. Also the LED bulbs seem to be proprietary so one just can't go find another on Amazon for a simple swap.

It takes two
I will start out as this hood looks amazing. It is well built and a quality product. As with most quality products it is not overly heavy, but has some good weight to it. If you plan on installing this by your self over a weekend, make sure you have a helper. You will NOT be able to do this by your self. I ended up using 3 people: one on each side to assist in getting the mounting bars over the mounting plate and one person to jack up the hood using our third hand (third hand is just a long arm with a jack so we did not have to try and lift it while mounting). Also, make sure that the mounting bracket is level (I had to take mine down because it was hanging crooked because my ceiling is crooked). There is no leveling feature on the mounting plate. you have to use spacers to level it. Another suggestion is to make sure you have at least 4 to 8 inches of space between the sleeve and the ceiling. This means you will need to use the additional mounting arms (everything is supplied which is great!). I wanted mine as high as possible to give me a less obstructed view. Installing the unit high combined with my low ceiling height, I only left myself about 2" to do the hook ups (luckily I have an attic and was able to do most in the attic) and raise the inner sleeve to the mounting plate. The LED lights are great. the display is very cool. And, the suctions is amazing! We were tossing papers under it and it would suck them up to the grates. With suction, obviously there is noise. This is louder than my bathroom fans when on high. obviously when you lower the speed of the fan you lower the noise. Really only 1 item of concern: my fan sounds like there is a paper (or something) in it. When you turn it on it reminds me when I was young and would tie a baseball (or playing card) to my bike so it will hit the spokes and making a clicking sound. It was pretty cool on my bike, but not so cool on the range hood in my house. They do have well written instructions, and trouble shooting suggestions. But they do not address this concern. This extra work is the only reason I am giving this a 3 star rating.

My contractor told me this was for "new construction"...
Final product looks great, works perfectly! But my contractor complained that it was supposed to be for "new construction only." more on that in a bit.... I have 10' ceilings and the extensions allowed us to bring the hood down to 36" above my cooktop, which is the max allowable height to meet code where I live. I think that's a pretty good height range. If you want 24" above your stove, you'll need to have 9' ceilings or lower. The fit and finish is good. The touchscreen is responsive and works well enough. I'm actually surprised that the price is so low considering how much of the cost must be in the stainless steel and other materials alone. So I'm not picky about the screen, just happy that it responds well. One thing (nit pick) that I don't like is you have to sort of "wake it up" by holding the power button for two seconds before you can turn on the light or fan. But if the lights or fan are already on, it responds instantly to any buttons (no wake up needed). So the only possible negative is that my contractor told me this is for "new construction only" because he had to fish wood supports up into the ceiling to mount this. But from what I've read (and YouTube videos I've watched), that's pretty normal even for non-new construction. Overall I'd buy it again, even for existing construction.
