Big Audio Upgrade for PC/Console — Powerful, Clean, and Loud
The Creative G6 7.1 HD Gaming DAC/USB sound card has been a noticeable upgrade over onboard audio. Sound quality is cleaner with better separation, and it drives headphones with authority—there’s plenty of volume on tap, and it doesn’t sound strained. The built-in headphone amp (Xamp) does a great job of giving headphones more punch and detail, especially in the lows and mids compared to typical motherboard audio. For gaming, the surround/positional audio is a real benefit. Footsteps and directional cues are easier to place, and the overall soundstage feels more “open,” which helps in shooters and competitive games. It also works well for music and general media, so it’s not a one-trick gaming box. Controls and setup are straightforward once you get it dialed in, and it’s nice having a dedicated external unit that’s easy to swap between devices or move between setups. Overall, if you want a strong, reliable external DAC/amp that improves clarity, boosts headphone performance, and adds convincing virtual surround for gaming, the Creative G6 is a solid buy.

Perfect Nintendo Switch dac/amp
I bought this to use with my Nintendo Switch, which can be very fussy about which DACs it'll work with. For the Switch, it's a huge upgrade in terms of sound quality. Sound is much more immersive, with good detail and separation. The DSP effects work well and it is more than capable of driving higher end headphones (HD 650). I haven't tried optical out, but line out plays nicely with my speakers (MR1 mk2). Compared to the Cyrus Soundkey I also tried with my Switch, sound is slightly less separated, but the G6 doesn't suffer from the Soundkey's hyper-treble. More importantly, it has none of the Soundkey's compatiblity issues (which had frequent dropouts and distortion). Compared to the Soundblaster G3, it's as compatible but sounds much better (the G3's sound isn't a significant upgrade from on-board sound). I tested it briefly with my desktop and have mixed feelings. It's definitely a good upgrade from onboard sound, and has some nice gaming-centric features. You really need to disable all DSP effects if you're using it for music or movies, and even the limits because quite obvious playing a high quality source. Compared to my Chord Mojo, instruments lacked separation, sound stage was cramped and detail was generally lacking. So there you have it. Great upgrade for the Switch and a solid upgrade fron on-board sound in Windows. I wouldn't say it punches above its weight, as it really doesn't hold a candle to the likes of the Chord Mojo or M-dac Mini, but it's good value for money nevertheless.

Great hardware, shame about the software!
I purchased this sound card as an upgrade from internal motherboard sound, which couldn't drive my Beyerdynamic DT770's especially well. I was hoping that I'd be able to use it on both my PC and my PS4, which indeed I can - it works as both a USB sound card and a standalone DAC with optical input and virtual surround. The sound quality is excellent. Personally, I've turned off all the bells and whistles (SBX mode, Scout mode) and tried to go for direct mode, as they don't add to the experience much for me on high quality headphones. Listening to music, I get really clear sound, and it is able to deliver bass to my headphones properly (usually where most built in headphone amplifiers fall down, in my experience). When gaming, it's easy to hear the position of sounds - there's no distracting distortion or fuzzyness. On a PS4 (using optical input), and setting up Dolby 5.1 codec, virtulised surround works well and the quality is excellent (just with SBX and Scout turned off!). Though I did encounter a lot more noise than on a PC (maybe my USB power supply is to blame). I mention this first as sound quality is, for me, the most important part of the product and what I paid the premium for. However, there's one drawback - the Sound Blaster Connect software, the drivers for Windows, and the firmware for the device itself. They're pretty dreadful, I'm afraid! On many occasions, the volume knob on the hardware just stops working. I noted, if you turn the knob *too fast* it skips rotary encoder steps and so actually changes the volume more *slowly* the *faster* you turn it - the encoder isn't being polled quickly enough (this could be fixed with a firmware update). Sometimes, if you're changing settings like the sample rate, it'll just plain stop working entirely and you'll have to reboot your PC before it'll come good again. Sometimes the External Mic input will work fine, but the Headphone output won't. Sometimes the reverse. Mic Monitoring has too much latency to leave enabled. If you unplug the hardware and plug it back in later, you might encounter various glitches (like the volume knob no longer working, or the mic monitoring no longer working). I really hope that over time the software will be improved, as it's a very capable bit of hardware which is being let down by the software!

one of the best PC audio upgrades
After having issues with onboard audio (buzzing and crackling noises while moving the mouse and playing sound), I've decided to give Sound Blaster a go. And rather than installing a PCI card, like we used to in the old days, I decided to try the USB device so I can also more easily move it from one PC to another. I first bought a G5 and later replaced it with a G6. I now own 2 G6's and they're amazing. I love the fact that you can tweak the audio to your liking and the sound profile stays saved on the device, even if it's disconnected and moved to another PC! Another great feature is that the two front 3.5mm inputs allow for headphones or headset (w/ mic) and a dedicated microphone. If you unplug the headphones/headset, audio automatically gets routed to the rear audio-out. I've connected the G6 to a Fosi Audio D-class amp and a set of bookshelf speakers and I've been very happy. Beats onboard audio even on the high end motherboards. If nothing else, the SB Command app and the physical controls which are right in front of you make a huge difference. P.S. I've ran a cheaper version of these (G3 model with usb-c cable) on my IPAD and it worked without issues. I believe G6 would too with the right adapter.

Creative Labs Excellence
having owned many Creative Sound Blaster cards my last being the X-Fi Platinum my expectations for this G6 were high and I've not been at all disappointed with decent sound quality with both music playback and in game also only had one time where the device wasn't detected needing an unplug/ re-plug to fix in nearly one year of ownership. I use Sennheiser 599SE which are easily driven and sound great paired with the G6 10/10 Highly Recommended

plagued with pops
I've had this device for about a year, and during all that time I've experienced these annoying audio "pops" that happen randomly in certain games. Because buying the soundcard coincided with building a new PC, I've spent basically a year diagnosing these audio issues, optimizing dpc latency and trying various tweaks and "fixes" found online. The other day I decided to swap this unit for a £25 soundblaster play 3 dongle....no more pops. I see this issue reported quite a few times online, so there's either a design flaw, or just a bad batch of them. Pops/crackles aside, the sound is excellent, perfectly loud, clear, crisp, and the software allows you to customize as much or as little as you'd like. Can't really recommend it though, given the price. The play 3 device that I'm using now sounds as good, although a bit quieter, so I turn it up to 100 instead of the 60-80ish I was using on the g6.
