Amazing

Product came pre soldered. Which was perfect as I didn’t need to get my gun out and do it myself! Thank you

Incompatible chips

The 74HC125D chip is not correct for the voltage level shifting requirements of this USB host shield. Save your money and look elsewhere for the proper components

These boards are populated with incorrect parts resulting in inability to detect attached device.

The circuit board manufacturer insists on populating the U7 with a 74HC125 IC. The part is intended to be a 74AHC125. The consequence of this stupidity is that the SPI 5V signals from the Arduino push the 3.3V dc source to above 4V. That is beyond the maximum allowed voltage for the MAX3421E USB chip on the board. Because of this mistake the USB chip is incapable of detecting an attached USB device's 3.3V presence signal, or worse, the 3421E chip becomes destroyed. This is a consumer issue that might be considered a product fraud by Amazon if they cared enough to read these reviews. Don't buy any USB host shields.

Multiple orders, all correct! 😁

Purchased 3 so far (at separate dates) and I'm happy to report they came in as expected and working perfectly 😌Putting more orders in now. Whatever problems they used to have, it sounds like that's over.

Soldering required

Like others mentioned, power is completely disconnected from the factory and I don't understand why. 3.3V & 5V inputs as well as 5V Vbus pads need to be bridged but after this rework, it works properly.I bought several of these and their build quality has been a mix. On many of them, pins were not soldered straight and it took a little effort to connect to an Arduino board.

For those who wondering why after soldering 3.3v, 5v and bus 5v it doesn't work.

After two days of messing around with it I discovered that instead of 74AHC125 chip there was 74HCT125 one soldered. The PCB is supposed to have two different chips: 74HCT125 and 74AHC125, to convert 5v to 3v logic and to convert 3v to 5v logic. Mine came with two 74HCT125 chips. This is on the edge of my skills, but looking at the datasheets I concluded that these chips are not interchangeable, unfortunately. :( Even-though both chips are 3-state buffers, 74HCT125 has higher input transition threshold (>4v) and it cannot be used to convert from 3v to 5v logic. Worse, it is not going to work (stable) with 3.3v VCC.This explains very strange board behavior where QC program (board_qc from USB Shield 2.0 lib) pass all the tests but still doesn't work.Poor quality control, this doesn't worth your money and your time. Do not buy.
