My favorite Down album of all time!
This is my favorite Down album of all time, and I hate to say it but the other albums are a little weak in comparison. I have all of the released Down albums and this one byfar is best. If you like screaming and singing combined, this is the album for you. I wish they would return to this sound but that does not seem possible. This album is smooth going down but also packs a punch, and I loved it. The lyrics I read online are more personal, and are dark *depression, suicide, drugs*. However, I enjoy it for its Southern-esque music feel, and the singer sounds great. This is the 1 Down album to pick up, if you have to pick 1 up. Don't hesitate just listen!

Reviews, I Don’t Know What They Say But...
If you’re reading this then you already know a review for this album is stupid. Is this album good? Is a next day crawfish boil deuce corny? The fact that you can get this on vinyl is like being paid to test taste Blanton’s at the Bourbon House in the French Quarter. If you honestly are hear for a review of this album this is not the best medium for you to purview, because honestly if you haven’t figured it out over the last 25 years that this is the one of the best albums ever you should probably just stick to your FFDP cover of Bad Company... Paul Rogers deserves an apology, by the way.

A super group that does it right
I’ve been blasting this album for almost 30 years and it never gets old. It’s truly one of the few albums that I consider to be perfect

This is a truly rare feat, it's what I consider a perfect record. I thought that when it came out, and that hasn't changed over the years since. I wouldn't change a single note, lyric, song placement, etc. It wasn't a collection of songs that sounded like any of the main bands of the of the guys that make up the band Down. I wish the band had left it as the only release, because the albums that followed couldn't come even close to this masterpiece.

The New Orleans based band Down released their debut album NOLA all the way back in 1995 and over the years it has moved from a sort of cult classic to one of the essential heavy metal albums of our time. Down brought together Phil Anselmo, Pepper Keenan, Kirk Windstein and surprisingly Jimmy Bower on drums to play a sort of sludge and southern rock influenced stoner rock style. NOLA, named after the band's New Orleans Louisiana roots, contains many of the band's most loved songs, from the likes of big rocking songs such as `Lifer,' `Bury Me In Smoke,' and `Hail To The Leaf,' to softer more contemplative moments like `Jail,' and `Pray For The Locust.' The album has no weak links, basically every track is a classic and the majority of the album is played live to this day which should speak volumes of about its quality. As well as inspired songwriting, and great performances, the album has an exceptional production job, almost years ahead of its time. The album sounds big and meaty, with an immense drum sound yet at the same time sounds like an old undiscovered vinyl gem from back in the 70s. NOLA may come from a pretty esteemed pedigree, but at the same time actual manages to still be greater than the sum of its parts. If you have the slightest interest in Down or even just in the genre, you really need to check this album out.
