Surprising quality.
UPDATE after two years of heavy use. Upgrading to a 5 star rating in my book. I do not use this pole in an easy manner. I hike almost exclusively in rugged back country terrain. No groomed trails or walking paths for this particular pole! The terrain can vary from swampy mountain valleys to large boulder fields up to 14k feet. -40 degrees to +100F, nothing stops this little Coleman pole. I also use it FAR beyond what I would have expected the designers to plan for. Extended to the absolute maximum length (all the way to the STOP lines) I use it to whack away shrubbery and foliage. At times I have taken some decent falls and put all of my 250lbs onto the pole, causing it to bend like an archers longbow. However, the unit straightens back out and the locks don't budge an inch. In camp I use it to hold rain a rain fly or poke suspicious looking critters. It seems that no matter what I throw at this device, it keeps working 100%. It may not be as aesthetically pleasing as it once was, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But I still don't really like the shock absorbing feature. The point of a hiking pole is to take some of the strain off of knees and backs. Why would I want to damper that assistance? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quite a surprising little gem from a company I generally write off as junk. This pole was cheap, hence my purchase. I have a bad back and have until now resisted buying a pole. For an easy toe into the water of old age, I jumped on this. The contraption arrived quickly and assembled with little/no reading of the manual. I am happy that it will extend long enough for me (6'5") although I do have it at its absolute max height. So, I hear you asking "if he loves it so much, why the 4 star rating?". Coleman decided to put in some shock absorbing mechanism. It really doesn't work at all. Had Coleman promised a trekking pole without shock absorbing capability, then I would rate this critter a 5.

life saver!
I had a bad accident on my bicycle and ended up with a grade three concussion. Doc said no more bicycling until the dizziness went away, but he did say I could go for walks. I ordered this Trekking Pole so that I could walk and still have some stability in case I became dizzy. I started my walks on the bike path and sidewalks so I used the rubber boot that came with the pole. That provided a very stable and consistent support. It was a great purchase and I have used it every day for the past month. Some of my walks have been the trails around lakes where I just took off the little rubber boot and used the spike on the bottom of the pole. It works great too. I'm arond 6'2", but I can adjust the pole to a height that is comfortable for me. My wife is 5'4" and she can adjust it to her comfort height too. Very please with this purchase, especially after shopping around a local stores where the prices for the same quality were much higher. This is a bargain!

Good Product
I use the Coleman Trekking Pole to get around in bad weather. It supports my balance when I have to navigate snow drifts or ice patches. The only minus I found with this product is that the extension mechanism limit-line is not as clearly visible as I would have liked it to be. I missed the "maximum" level by just a hair and the lock split which resulted in my not being able to securely set the height without causing the pole to collapse to a shorter height. I compensated by wrapping duct tape around the extension point as I could not fix the locking mechanism itself after I pulled the pole components beyond the "maximum" limit-line. The pole still works at the height I need.

Cheap and good value
I've used this on several occasions and have lead to wonder why anyone could pay 5 or 10x for another pole - just how much better could such a pole be? I really don't know - these are robust, comfortable and plenty light enough unless you are really obsessed with weight. I found the locking mechanism easy to use the spring mode very pleasing on the wrists. My only gripe would be that the default little rubber feet are sometimes pointing in the wrong direction which is not a problem with standard round feet other poles have. However the feet work pretty well and it is usually only a 2 second twist to get them correctly aligned. Oh and make sure you buy two if that is what you need (probably) since you only get one per order.

Works GREAT!
This trekking pole is of very good quality...I love the cork handle...very comfortable...The strap quality is excellent...I have been in the habit of using a simple wood walking stick when hiking or walking a good distance...The Coleman Trekking Pole is a wonderful improvement...It makes a tremendous difference in my ability to hike...to go up and down hills...I feel so much more secure with it...I walk almost daily...but still didn't want to invest a lot of money...I cannot think of any reason why this particular pole is not adequate for my purposes...I wouldn't want to walk/hike any distance without it...I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend it to others.....Update...I have hiked a lot of miles since my purchase and review...I am amazed at how helpful this little pole is going up and down hills...Really makes a difference...And it has helped me to successfully cross many a creek...Wouldn't be without it...

This is my second Coleman Trekking Pole. It is a great pole, especially for the price. It is very strong and can support my full weight when climbing down a steep slope, but is light enough to carry easily when jogging along even trails. I just use the metal tip and the snow/mud guard which has better traction than the footed cover. The cork handle is cool in summer and warm in winter, and never gets sweaty. The wrist strap is comfortable and non-abrasive on my sensitive skin. Perfect all around for my use.

I have been using previous poles for some time but felt that I needed a better one as the older ones wore out. This Coleman was recommended by Amazon and it is well worth it. It is light, comfortable to use and helps me walk safer and quicker. Definitely a good buy!

I just used this on a 7 day winter trek, and was very happy with its performance. It's light, the grip is ergonomically great, and the build quality was pretty solid. The pole-end attachments proved to be very handy as we trekked through a variety of terrains. The higher price (as compared to other, cheaper poles on the market) was well justified.

I have had this a couple of months and the lock feature has worked well so far. Looks good too.

Nice and light. Great pole for my tarp as well. Just wish I had of bought two, can't seem to find another single one for the same price. Found another one bought it right away, so happy I now have two.
