Beautiful Books - Amazing Series!
First of all, this is a beautiful set! The dust covers are very pretty & sturdy. The little cards that come with the set are nice too. This boxset looks beautiful on my bookshelf. The books themselves were very well thought out and help with the experience of the story. I like the font that the publisher chose and the use of italics to distinguish between diolouge and thought. I borrowed a different version of Breaking Dawn from the library and the "feel" of this set is much nicer. There were a few things that I did not care for though. At the end of my paperback versions there is the first chapter of the next book. This set does not have that. I suppose that's fine since you obviously have them all, but I really liked having the preview chapter. Another thing I did not like is that the graphic is only on the dust cover. The books themselves are just plain black under the cover. Overall I think this is a very nice product and worth the money. Now, about the stories: I am a mom/wife in my late 20's and I LOVE this series. It was a nice, easy, enjoyable read. I have a paperback set, this hardcover set, and an audio set. I have read the series several times and read it again when I am in between other books. I am a huge Jane Austen fan and I love the references and the obvious inspiration the author takes from classic literature (Pride & Predjudice, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and a lot of Wuthering Heights). She drew inspiration from the classics, but did not model her storyline on any one story in particular. Meyer is a wonderful writer and creates a world the reader can get lost in. I did not find her writing style or her descriptions to be a distraction from the story. She created a realistic world, with real characters. The love story between Edward & Bella starts with just enough tension and builds throughout the series. I felt their love was believable and it captivated me. The kisses & intimate scenes were extra steamy, but in a pure way. It was innocent and lovely. It was the essence of first love. It was enough for me as a wife to enjoy, but not too much for an older teen to be exposed to. The violence was the same way. It was described accurately enough to get the feeling across without being too graphic. Meyer does an excellent job at balance in my opinion. The series was safe, but still stimulating. I believe that one thing that really sets Meyer's Twilight series apart from others in this genre is the background she gives her characters. Even the supporting characters in the series are real. They have a past, a realistic personality, they have thoughts that you only get hints at. These characters do not only exist on the page they are on. She knows who they are and therefore I feel like I do too. The supporting characters, especially the Cullens, are wonderful. I felt they were complex, likable, and interesting. Now, about Bella - I have read a lot of criticism about her being whiney and dull. I, however, disagree. She is an excellent main character. Her stability is a great backdrop for the rest of the characters and the complex storyline. She is well developed and shows a realistic amount of growth throughout the series. I must say that I liked her throughout, but really LOVED her at the end of the 4th book. I am a Twilight fan. I love the series and I love this set. I am ardently hoping that Meyer will come out with more books to add to this amazing series. I have heard the rumors that there will be more and am anxiously awaiting their release.

A must have to add to your book collection!
I wanted to get the first book, Twilight from the library, thought since, I had seen the movie before reading the book, better be safe. However, the wait to read Twilight, from the library was over a year, I wanted to read the second novel before the new movie came out and decided to buy the collection. I am so glad I purchased this collection, I started out with the first book and absolutely loved it, finished it in two days, so I was especially glad I chose to buy the collection. I am not an avid reader, but this authors gift of writing is beyond words, I just could not put the book down. I have had a real wild few years, due to illness(s), toddler and my fathers passing in a car accident; Having this collection to read at night was wonderful, it helped calm my senses and put my imagination into over drive; it was such a surprise to enjoy reading again. I am a mom, first and foremost and most of my day is taking care of others, to actually put aside time for myself and read this collection was extremely healing. The last few years, all my spare time was consumed with research on my rare medical condition, I have suffered 26 infections in 24 months. To have something to do that was relaxing and not taxing on my body is a treasure and I am so grateful to her work. I have tried to read other authors work, but found myself bored, and not into the pieces at all. Stephanie Meyer is such a talent and her gift of writing has helped me cope with an unbearable illness and to just escape a few hours a night, having my mind in another world is priceless. I am turning 40 this year, this body of work is about teenagers, I found it bringing back memories of when I went to high school and found it tremendously enjoyable, I think this work is for any age. I hope Stephanie Meyer continues her work, I understand that someone leaked the last book on the intranet, but I am hoping one day she will decide she wants to continue the series, I am now a forever fan! Book 4 Review.... Amazon will not let me leave on Book 4 because I obviously purchased the entire set....
roles eyes:: I red the entire set and loved it..... But I wrote this long review and Amazon would not let me post it because I didn't buy Book 4 solo... So cheers to book 4.... Ok.. I finally agree with the vast majority of reviewers about Jacob. I enjoyed his bonding with Edward, to an extend. I felt like he was overstaying his welcome-- moderately. Bella's desire for him was irritating. Hearing Jacob's perspective on his "Alpha" status first hand was interesting. But when he decided he'd fallen in love with Bella's child-- I was disgusted and took a break for about a day before I decided I wanted to know what happened. (I cheated a little.. flipping to the end. I wasn't going to continue reading if the entire last book was devoted to two parents condoning a pedophile). Somewhere in the last book with Bella's narration... He eased up a bit. He stopped interfering with Bella's attempts at motherhood (and seriously.. she deserved the opportunity given the fact that her pregnancy was like 100 times worse than usual....). I wanted them to kick Jacob out and keep him away. (Although.. knowing pesty Jacob.. he probably would have attempted to steal 'Nessie' and make her hate her parents or something). -- and what is up with the name Renessie anyway? Ew? Coime page 718-- I felt like Meyer was really trying to end the series. She spilled out all the political tinges to her book. .. Letting go of family feuds by becoming friends with an enemy that never really was (kinda like racism) ... Standing up for rights or letting your rights get taken away (kinda how protests form today.. and the big debate on the news currently in politics with womens rights... gay rights).. The biblical-like story where you have a battle, there's good versus evil and some are too afraid to fight and run in fear. Anyhow... from 718 on like.. five pages, it was filled with these sorts of analogies. I get that her book was kind of like that all along-- questioning our way of thinking.. making us understand various perspectives (even when they were annoying... like overly-sensitive-way-too-apologetic Bella). Meyer made everything make sense... but I felt like she needed more time to kind of mesh this nicely into the book. Instead, I was reading page after page of nonstop lecture-format dialogue. (Not that I didn't enjoy the subject matter... It just felt rushed). She did a great job. I didn't mind the happy ending... although I do with they would have killed off the Volturi as opposed to anticipating getting picked off one at a time. It seems to me like the second novel where they didn't anticipate Victoria coming back to avenge her lovers death... Or Irina for that matter. Meyer left us with limitless possibilities for thinking about the "future" of the characters. I also enjoyed the relationship Bella had with her baby... I think I read a few reviews that said otherwise when purchasing the book. I was only upset that she was allowing Jacob to take away not only HER opportunity to bond with the child, but Edwards too. I was even kinda pissed off when she had Rosalie protecting her while pregnant... like Edward would reeeally go out of his way to hurt her. She made him miss out on the moment. And in her case.. it was only happening once. ::sigh

just what you want from a vampire story...
let me start by saying that i was committed to NOT jump on the "Twilight" bandwagon even though i'm a huge fan of Buffy, Angel and Interview with a Vampire. but, after being bored one night and seeing the movie on TV, i thought, "hey, this isn't so bad. maybe i'll give the books a try." the first book is almost word-for-word the same as the movie - just a couple of the venues have changed. it's pretty much everything you'd want out of a vampire romance. unconditional love, romeo-and-juliet overtones, etc. even my husband liked the movie enough to ask, "when's the next movie coming out?" the second and third books are good but too long. there seems to be a LOT of filler trying to make the book long enough to publish. these two books do move the story along, but it could have been done in about half the pages. the last book was the big disappointment. it got very "campy" and "cheezy". <<< spoiler alert >>> i mean, seriously, vampire babies!!!??? how in the world are they going to make that fourth book into a movie without ruining the entire series? the fourth book turned an otherwise sweet story into a comic convention joke. it was all about the super-powers and how the good-guys beat the bad-guys. on page 400, i found myself wondering, "is ANYTHING going to happen in this book?" all-in-all, the series was pretty good. i finished all four books in about 36 hours - so, if you're remotely interested, it's not a huge waste of time.

Still not sure why I bought it, but I'm glad I did
I'm still not sure what possessed me to buy the boxed set of the Twilight Saga over a year ago. Typically I prefer to stay out of the really popular trends in reading (especially if they cross age groups as this series did so easily) but there was just some thing about what I heard about this book-good and bad, obsessive and hateful-that interested me. Of course I still ignored it on my shelf for a year and a half. And then I picked it up. And I was shocked because I liked it. I really did like it. I'm not going to waste time with plot descriptions here. Everyone knows it already. If you don't: vampires, forbidden and dangerous love. There, that's the story. A couple of things made me love this series. First of all, the narrator (Bella) is so natural in what her voice comes off as. She changes her mind, thinks she's stupid, is insecure, admits embarrassing things to herself...she's about as close to a real person as I've ever seen a narrator get. And that makes it impossible not to want to know what happens next to her. The same thing applies to the dialog. It's just so real! People say things they never should have said are painfully stupid and rude and cruel at times and frequently change their minds in minutes-just like in real life. There is no attempt in this series to make big, memorable dramatic moments in every conversation. They do happen, it's true, but most often the dialog comes across as so natural. And then there's the Edward/Bella love story. There is something so sweet about a romance that isn't based at all on physical affection, but at the same time isn't sappy or demeaning to the woman involved. Romance with no pressure for more than you're ready for-romance with safety and respect and mutual friendship implied in it. It's a wonderful concept and it's not hard to see the appeal of it (even if you're not sure would would like it yourself.) Modern chivalry and (I hesitate to use this word because it denotes an opposite connotation to everything else) pure love. And of course, there are the plots. Each of the four books in the saga has an excellent plot line which features a lot of action, adventure, romance and angst. All of these books move at breakneck speed through increasingly interesting and dangerous adventures that threaten to tear our characters apart. Once I started reading "Twilight" I couldn't put the series down until I'd finished all four books in four days. And I'm no young adult. In fact, as far as I can see the only real young adult thing about these books is no bad language and no sex scenes. I'll never be the kind of Twilight fan who waits in line for the movies or names their pets after characters. And I don't rate these books amongst the best of all time. But these books had some amazing elements and took my mind off everything else in the world for four days. That earns them five stars.
