Not happy
I bought this because I needed to make good resolution scans of some ABS automotive parts and make small changes. So far that is a full fail. I have jumped through a lot of hoops to use this unit and while it does technically "work" the finished product is not editable or correctable. The last step of scanning is to make a "mesh" - in my case the mesh removes all detail and makes the object a squishly blob. you cannot export without making a mesh and once you do mesh the item it is locked in place and not editable. I am not sure what use of this is. I did make ONE print from a scanned object clay template and it was an accurate representation of the "mesh" but the "mesh" obliterated all my carefully placed bolt holes and changed sharp corners in rounded puffy marshmellows. It looked like something a 3 year old would draw. How is this .01mm resolution? When I spend this kind of money on a product I also do not like to be hit with software add ons - like the $80 "quick scan" feature. The website said it's included, but what they mean is it is "included after you pay more money." It's just a scam. Software crashes on Windows Server 2012 r2 mid scan - although they make no promises that it will work. The lighting and space requirements make use much more complex than just "set on desktop" - I suggest reading manual before buying. I was able to find a spot with no bright lights (after sunset) and a clear background without any reflective surfaces - but I was lucky. My first 3 spots did not work. Also the unit will not scan anything with a white black or reflective surface - if you want to scan something that is white, black or reflective you need to coat it in matte grey paint. I did this and my scans got a lot better - but not everything can be painted... But even the best scans looked like crap after "meshing" them. Overall it was a waste of money.

Good price for the functionality.
This was my first entry into 3D scanning and I was skeptical. The Matter and Form *seemed* like a good choice, since it has good resolution and the price is better than the other options. I decided to take a chance and if I didn't like it I'd just return it. The software doesn't come in the box, you have to download it from their website. I don't have a CD drive in my computer anyway. I didn't know where the power button was on the scanner. It's the logo. Kind of different but OK... I was able to calibrate and to get a good scan of the toy duck it comes with, but the scan didn't have the top or bottom. So you have to scan your object a few times and combine the scans together. This was fairly easy to do in their software. Each scan only took a minute, cleaning up the little bit of noise in each scan took about a minute, then combining them was almost instant. I did spend about an hour playing with different ways to scan the duck before I really liked the combined results. I was able to mesh and get a nice STL file for my printer. They have a cloud service bevelpix to upload the scans as well. I haven't checked it out yet. I also scanned this sea shell because I wanted to test these 0.1mm claims. I did this one with "quickScan". My time scanning the duck paid off for the shell. I got the two scans I needed and this result (see picture) in 8 minutes. My conclusion: 5 stars. I like this machine. It works and it is accurate. I also enjoyed using it. The pictures are my duck scan and print and my sea shell original and scan.

Decent for the money
I bought this to try my hand at 3D scanning. First of all it does work. You need to read the directions, and then they have some videos out there that helps you get the most out of it. I am still learning but overall I am pretty happy with it. I have problems with it trying to go on the same port as another printer I have so I have to unplug it for it to work. I guess that isn't the printers fault. :) Those that are complaining about this scanner, I can only imagine that they either aren't following the instructions, haven't watched some tutorials or are rushing the process. For the money I don't see how you do better. Their tech support is great btw. I bought this from the Amazon open box selection. It arrived in very good shape. No issues there.

DOESN'T WORK AS DESCRIBED
MATTER AND FORM SCANNER, it does scan and is fairly usable for beginners how ever the alignment and mesh system are crude at best. bought this to scan a model of a babys hand. i scanned probably 100 times and watched all the youtube videos available, the finished scan was so bad it in no way looked like the item i was scanning, after giving up because it couldnt get the detail i was looking for, we switched over the the model of the babies foot and that scan was no better, scanned from every angel to get a perfect scan and the mesh and alignment are trash, i would not recommend this product to anyone. in this situation, you get what you pay for.....cheap scanner with cheap feel.

It's just not worth the money. For well over £700, it's just too plasticy. The technology is just not there yet. It may be OK as a (expensive) toy or for very basic, plain objects, but the accuracy is not good enough for any usage that requires precision and it really struggles with certain colours, too much light, reflective surfaces, complex shapes etc. You certainly couldn't use it to accurately replicate most things by then printing on a 3D printer - you just lose too much definition and accuracy. The software is pretty decent, however, and works pretty intuitively, however it's let down by what the scanner hands to it. I ended up returning this for a refund, but if they upped the build quality (etc. metal case? higher quality threaded rod and quieter stepper motor?) and improved the resolution, I might consider buying a future version.
