Good product but know what you are buying.
I like these leads quite a bit. I don't mind that they are all the same variety of colors rather than having a range because of the fact that they are replacement leads, rather than being a set of more typical pencils, chalks or crayons. The hardness is about right, I find them responsive when sketching, they don't crumble or scratch the paper too much. The colors are a bit muted but that works well for what I want them for. Product quality is about the same as the other Giaconda leads, which is to say, very good, and I like the storage case. They arrived intact with no issues from shipping. I noticed one reviewer docked them points for being small, but these are not crayons or pencils to be used alone, they are meant to be used with a 5.6 mm lead holder. I have several of those and love being able to find different types of refills for them since I freely swap things around between lead holders since it is so easy to change things out. Overall I have no issues with this product. It's a bit unusual, yes, but does its job quite well.

Good Quality, Fun to Use
These are 5.6 size lead refills for a clutch pencil. The pencil leads have four colors twisted together so you get random colors on the page as you use them. I decided to get them after reading Sketching People: An Urban Sketcher's Manual to Drawing Figures and Faces by Lynne Chapman. I am a professional artist and when I start to feel a little stale and uninspired, playing around with something out-of-the-ordinary for me can revive my creativity. These pencil leads are great fun and of excellent quality. They are smooth on the page, lay down their random colors easily, and are easy to sketch with. (Koh I Noor also sells a package of "magic" pencils with different multi-colored leads encased in wood, like traditional pencils, if you want to try this type of drawing out and don't have/like a clutch pencil holder.)

Creatively thinking outside the box
Koh-I-Noor offers a number of items for stoking creativity and thinking outside the box. These Special Colored Leads are just one of these. I used these for the attached drawing of a salt marsh scene on the Eastern Shore of Virginia (I used some other pencils for the posts and boat due needing those specific colors). The colors of the salt marsh undergo a variety of color changes during the progression of the seasons - I feel these leads capture that in one drawing (if one uses their imagination a little). One isn’t quite sure what they’ll get with these leads, not a fault, but a characteristic that can be put to good use when trying to be creative. I rotated the leads as I was drawing which produced some further interesting results. No two strokes are the same. I used a blending stump after applying the first pass, then went over it again. The colors tend to be a bit muted but you can build them up as needed, again not a fault, just a characteristic that can be put to good use. In many ways, the drawings produced with these leads remind me of the Autochromes from the early days of color photography. I’d like to use these with Koh-I-Noor’s Tri-Tone colored pencils for additional creative effects. Overall, very pleased with these and highly recommend them.

yes this lead is the same as the stuff that comes with a Versatil 5340
Four stars instead of five, ’cuz one of the sticks of lead was broken, on arrival. Not the end of the world, but I'm not handing out five stars when stuff arrives imperfect. Meanwhile, the real reason I'm writing this is in case anyone else has the same question I did: Are these leads the same as what comes automatically in a Koh-i-noor Versatil 5340—? i.e. are these leads a combination of blue, yellow, and red? Answer: They don't LOOK like the lead that came with your 5340—neither in the photo, nor in your hand. But they ARE the same thing. They look like they have *pink* stripes and godnose whatall. But in fact, the stripes are blue, yellow, and red. I'd also like to take this opportunity to mention: the _wood-cased_ "Magic" Koh-i-noor pencils provide a very different experience from the 5340. It's all about what you're using ’em for. I use the 5340 to slash through things on my to-do lists. The wood-cased thing has the same lead, but it's not as nice to use for slashing, ’cuz it's not heavy enough. The 5340 is minimum 40g. The wood-cased is 10.

Super cool!
Mine came broken in shipment which is unfortunate although they are still usable. These pencil leads are really awesome for unique art. I use mine with a koh i noor versatil silver.

So much fun
Whatever your skill level, these leads are fun. They are a nice treat to play with. For me, they're best for line drawing (makes them look fancy 😉). These Koh-I-Noor "Magic" leads also have a matching lead holder (sold separately). And, if you like it, and want more colors, there are a set of 5 wood barrel pencils by Koh-I-Noor, "Magic", that include this, & 4 other colors that are nice as well. But I WISH all 5 colors were offered as leads. This color is my favorite though. If you've never used a 5.6mm lead holder, it is a bit bulky and a bit heavy. The box the leads come in are nice and solid, protecting them. I do wish there were more leads, but there are never enough leads, no matter what. I have lead & ink greed, & I've made peace with it.

Colors not as bright but still fun
I added this choice in with a nice collection of mechanical pencils and lead. Fun but would have like bolder and brighter colors.
