This HawkLock Quick release Cage Kit for the Sony ZV-E10 II (Model No. 4949) arrives in a plain looking, SmallRig branded, brown cardboard box. The cage itself is extremely well made and has a good finish throughout. Made of aluminium alloy, it is not only strong, but also fairly lightweight. It fits the ZV-E10 II Camera like a glove and secures to the camera using three different connection points (M2.5 screws on both shoulders and a 1/4”-20 screw into the camera’s tripod socket). This three point system means the cage is rock solid on the camera at all times, giving a safe and secure platform onto which to attach your accessories. The silicone handle is comfortable, and gives a much more secure, and slightly deeper grip than that found on the camera itself. The cage has multiple mounting points, including 1/4”-20 and 3/8”-26 ARRI sockets, a cold shoe mount, and a NATO mounting rail down one side. There are slots for attaching your camera strap. And the base of the cage is shaped in such a way to be ARCA Swiss compatible, meaning you can attach the cage directly to compatible tripod heads or gimbal clamps, without the need of an additional quick release plate. On top of this, the cage is also compatible with SmallRig’s new HawkLock system, which allows you to attach compatible accessories using a much quicker, pinch mechanism. Whilst this system is still relatively new, you can already get a number of accessories that use it, allowing you to create a rig that not only suits your needs, but is also much more quicker on convenient to setup and adjust on the fly. The detachable HDMI cable clamp works well. However, it should be noted that this clamp can impede the LCD display a little when the display is folded out, so you do need to be aware of this and handle the display with care when the clamp is in use. One final nice touch to mention is the magnetic dual head wrench that slots into the base of the cage, meaning it is always on hand should you have need of it. In conclusion, I have nearly always been impressed with any SmallRig camera equipment I’ve used, and with this cage I continue to be impressed. Not only is it a well made cage in its own right with all the features I would normally expect, but they have innovated things further by also making it compatible with their handy HawkLock system. Attaching this robust contraption to my camera feels akin to upgrading to a luxury car. The improved grip is a joy for any videographer, transforming what was once a fiddly little thing into an ergonomic pleasure. When I took it out for a spin during a hike, setting it up on my tripod was refreshingly easy, thanks to its quick-release function. It adds some heft, but the balance feels just right - a small trade-off for the peace of mind that comes with protecting my gear. The craftsmanship is outstanding, with meticulous fitting that leaves all essential buttons accessible and unobstructed. I particularly appreciate the range of mounting points, a superb touch for attaching microphones or lights. A nice solution for making my camera more versatile.

Great cage, almost perfect. However the cage blocks using the hot shoe as the cage rises above the front edge of the camera potentially blocking accesories that are slightly proud of the hot shoe.

Putting one star because missing the “wrench” that meant to come with it, if I can’t find one to fit I’m returning this and writing more bad reviews

It really is the best option but it isn't perfect. If it had the angled cold shoe, smaller screws for the HDMI clamp, top nato or at least better positioning of the holes, it would be perfect. Fits well enough. Grip is decent. Adds a nice amount of weight. Adds a bunch of functionality and is a must have for any rig.
