Everpure Ql3B Head Assembly

Had to replace an older unit (15 years old) that no longer sealed properly. This is an exact replacement. Hope I get another 15 year out of this one.

This is another high quality Everpure product. I installed this as part of a water system at a mountain cabin. I like the valve that turns the water flow off. Everpure also makes high quality water filters and provides technical support.

Thinking I was getting the new version of our 15 year old filter head assembly, I ordered this one (QL3B). Ends up not so, just a "less expensive" version I would not order again. Harder to install the filter into and does not hold as well. Shutoff to change filter does not work as well as the 15 yo one. Best to spend ~50% more for: Everpure EV9259-14 QL3 Single Filter Head with Bracket [ASIN B002D4CVHG]. It holds the filter from the metal outside and is stiffer mount.

I purchased the QL3B to replace a jammed QL3. (We were unable to turn either the lock ring or the filter on the old QL3.) It's much easier to detach and attach filters to the QL3B. With the old QL3, we would typically spend a few minutes getting the old filter off and then another several minutes attaching it. There was always a moment of doubt when turning the valve back on as to whether it would work or not. Filters attach and detach to / from the QL3B in a matter of seconds. The QL3B is a simpler mechanism. It lacks the extra lock ring which was problematic in the QL3. I was able to use the connectors from the QL3 when I attached the QL3B. The only tools that I used were a pair of pliers for loosening / tightening the connectors and a pair of scissors for cutting some teflon tape. (I'm not certain that new tape is needed, but I peeled off as much of the old tape as I could and then used a small amount of new tape.)

Does not come with the two tubing fittings (inlet and outlet), likely because users have different diameter tubing, and fittings can be 90 degree elbows or straight. Buy what you need at the hardware store or online. My fittings are for ¼" OD tubing, with the outlet tube going to a drinking water tap, (also splits downstream to connect to the refrigerator ice maker). But, you may have ⅜" OD or even larger tubes. The threaded end of these fittings need to be ⅜" NPT, this end screws into the top of this filter mounting receptacle.

This item works as intended, the 1 star is for Amazon and their description or lack thereof. This item comes with no instructions and no parts to hook it to your existing water system. I can only assume this head is for someone replacing one in an existing system. I had to go to the hardware store to find all the parts needed to actually hook this up to my water system. If you are purchasing this for a new system then save yourself some headache and buy the "H-300 Drinking Water System" listed here on Amazon which includes a filter and all the parts needed to hook it up to your water system.

This was a Great replacement for a damaged original Head Assembly
