A Perfect Start for Beginners and Children
I recently bought this book and found the flow to be incredibly natural. The plot is very clear and easy to understand, even for a beginner. Ruskin Bond uses simple vocabularies, which makes this story perfectly suitable for children also. The characters and the timeline are perfectly portrayed, and I loved that the book includes beautiful black-and-white sketches of the scenes. If you are just starting to read English books, this is definitely the best book to begin!

Beautiful story 👍🏻💕❤️🩹
The Blue Umbrella by Ruskin Bond is a heartwarming story set in a small village in India. It follows Binya, a young girl who trades her lucky leopard-claw pendant for a beautiful blue umbrella. The umbrella becomes her prized possession, and the villagers admire and envy it. Ram Bharosa, an old shopkeeper, grows jealous of Binya's umbrella and desperately wants it for himself. He tries to acquire it through dishonest means, leading to a series of events that teach both him and Binya valuable lessons about kindness, generosity, and forgiveness. The story highlights themes of greed, innocence, and the power of compassion. In the end, Binya shows maturity by giving Ram Bharosa the umbrella, and he, in turn, realizes his mistake. The book is a simple yet profound tale about human nature and morality.

A feel good story
I am reading fiction after almost ten years (I am a 27 years old female). All this while I was reading self-help books that contain more or less the same content so I got bored of them and during the pandemic I stopped reading books altogether. I tried reading some books on the phone but would easily get distracted and discontinue the book. I was getting desparate to get back into my reading habit so without giving it much thought I orderd this book. When I received it, I was shocked to see how thin it was. I could finish it within an hour or two, I thought. But I ended up reading just one chapter a day over the course of a week whilst thoroughly enjoying the art illustrations and absorbing all the information at a slow pace. I feel, it has somewhat healed my inner child. The story is very simple with a moral that I'm sure kids would benefit greatly from. As an adult, I could foresee how it would end yet had a child-like excitement to read the next chapter. I guess I was missing this kind of genuine excitement for reading books, so I'm grateful for this book to help me get out of the reader's slump. Ever since I finished this book, I have gotten more such books that are primarily meant for childre as I'm enjoying their simplistic narration and subtle lessons.

Bedtime Story
Read kids' books from time to time. It is a good change, and these stories are- mostly- profound in nature. Besides that, these stories serve as a visit to childhood and assist in accomplishing the Goodreads challenge. The Blue Umbrella is one such book. Ruskin Bond enlightens us with the experience of a little girl who trades her lucky bear claw for a blue-coloured posh umbrella. People envy her because of that umbrella- humans find it arduous to digest others' happiness. And Lala of the town is disheartened and envious of not having that umbrella with him. Will he do something? Well, he got money and that gives him some power. The story discusses themes like greed, envy etc. How avarice is harmful is also a part of this story. The scenes are beautifully portrayed, and the characterization is plausible. The story is intact, and the hilly setting- iconic of Ruskin Bond, is visited here. It is a great story and can be a good bedtime tale for kids and you.
