I was looking for a way to brighten a room during the dark winter months ahead. Some research kept pointing to the BlissLights Evolve as a good, price-conscious option. I took the plunge and ordered one, hoping for the best. When it arrived, the packaging was good, with good protection for the light and its components (base, light, power supply). Setup couldn't be easier; basically place the light ball on the base, plug it in, turn it on, and it is ready to go. To get the best use out of it, you need to download the BlissHome app, which lets you pair the device to the app and to the network. This took a couple of tries, but probably more user error than any issues with the app. The second try worked perfectly, and it even has additional pairing options, if for some reason you really get stuck. Now to the important part, how it looks. I'm totally impressed. The cloud has rich colours, great mellow motion and makes it feel like you are staring into your favourite nebula (Horsehead, anybody?). The stars are bright and have a nice contrary motion, immersing your room in gently moving lights. The app lets you select scenes/colourways that are predefined, or lets you select your own. You can adjust the colour, motion and light intensity for the cloud and stars separately, really providing you with a soothing customized light. Pros: - Small form factor - Nice design - Great lights/visuals - Easy setup - Easy connectivity to Google Home - Timer feature - Great customizability - Easy to position on the base - Easy to use app Cons: - None that I can think of, but it's early days. - It does seem that if I customize the lights on the fly, turn it off, then turn it on again, it forgets my settings and defaults to full bright/full rotation, but I need to test that out more. Probably user error. In short, I love it. If I were to look for a similar light for another room, I would definitely buy this one again.

Edit: I returned my previous light and purchased a new one. The new one did work directly out of the box. This part of my review addresses the new, functional device. My previous review is listed afterward. My star rating remains at one star. The replacement light worked straight out of the box, and looks really nice. However, it is incredibly difficult to use in every other respect, and I do not recommend this brand or this device. The light requires the user to directly connect it to their home internet network, and requires the user to use a 2.5Ghz channel on their router (5Ghz is the norm in 2024). I had to create an entirely separate network solely to use this light, and have to switch to it every time I want to use it. The creation of a separate 2.4Ghz network is likely beyond the ability of most users, making the “smart” aspects and all customizations inaccessible for most people. Additionally, even though I followed all of the steps exactly, it took several attempts to finally have the device connect to WiFi (which is required for the device to be controlled by the app). When it finally worked, there was no difference in any of the steps followed, so no indication of what the problem was in the first place. Bluetooth-only connection should be supported by this device. Full WiFi access is absolutely not necessary to change light patterns. WiFi connection should be an optional feature for when people want to automate the light further and connect to other smart devices. Previous review: Very disappointed in this light. It didn’t work straight from out of the box, the light just randomly turned on and off, didn’t cycle through settings or any of the things it was supposed to do. Tried connecting it to the app to see if I could fix it, and repeatedly could not connect. It would find the device but connection would time out each time, even after triple-checking each troubleshooting step. After all of the positive reviews, this was a real disappointment. I’d give 0 stars if I could because there was zero functionality.

We have both this version and the previous version of the star lights and we like the previous version much better. This does offer a beautiful light and I like how far the stars go down the walls instead of just on the ceiling; however, there are several things I do not like: The base is detachable and the projector just sits on top of the base. Because of this, our kids frequently separate the base from the projector so it is only a matter of time before that bass goes missing and we are left with trying to keep a ball from rolling while keeping it stable to project lights on the ceiling. Because the base is separate, the projector rolls freely on the base and the heavy cord frequently pulls the ball over. We have to pin the cord down with a heavy object so it does not pull the projector over. The previous model had buttons on the side of the actual projector instead of built into the cord. It is very annoying trying to use the button on the cord especially since we have to pin the cord down in order to keep to projector propped upright (see previous point). In addition, it is incredibly slow responding to the button so it is hard to cycle through settings to turn off the projector unlike the previous version. This light is much brighter than the previous version. This can be really cool and produces a beautiful light. However, we use it as a night light in our kid's room and they seem to have a much harder time going to sleep because it is so much brighter in the room rather than just being an accent light on the ceiling. Overall, we were really excited about an updated version of the star light because we have enjoyed the previous version so much, but this update is not a good one and, to us, is actually a step back, not forward. We highly recommend the previous version over this one.
