The Festool 571782 RO 125 FEQ Rotex Sander comes with a "semi-soft" or "medium" pad which is good for general purpose sanding, but for smoothing table tops or large flat surfaces this is the pad you want. The harder pad helps to smooth out uneven joints or mill marks and produce a flat surface in rotex mode. They do seem to wear out faster than the softer pads, which I assume is from the harder backing.
