If you don't know chess and want to learn it with your child, this book is the one to use. Its concepts are accessible by both adults and children. That is, the prose is perfect for both ages & is a joy to use in bonding with children.

You can tell that she respects the reader's intelligence and provides straight-to-the-point explanations without overdoing it. This book feels like a fantastic "family" reading opportunity for one parent (mom or dad) plus the child. I especially like how she included sections on sportsmanship and over-the-board etiquette. In a culture that often overemphasizes winning, here, the author explicitly points out how LOSING a game is a learning opportunity.
