Production Value Up. Cost Down.
If you are a low or no budget filmmaker, this GVM slider is a definite investment to your kit. For my type work (at a non-profit doing promotion) this made total sense in buying. Over the past months, it has proven itself in numerous criteria: economical, versatile, consistent & durable. I have used this slider to give motion to a B-camera and as a temporary setup to give motion in live production. I have yet to have an issue with any craftsmanship or functionality issue. It has added a great improvement to my appeared production value. Things to know: 1) It does take time and patience to learn the interface of the controller. It is not difficult or complex, but it does take time to become proficient. Read reviews & watch videos on youtube to learn how to set it up. I opened the box on the day of a shoot and did not assemble it until I arrived on location and had no problem setting up the controller. 2) At higher rates of speed, the battery drains considerably faster. So take extra batteries. 3) At lower speeds, the motor's sound is almost imperceivable. However at very high speed (90%+). With that being said, if you are using it for a moving B-Camera you will never want to use it above 70-80% speed. So this to me is a non-factor. 4) The case, though light-weight seems to be durable enough to sustain travel. I do "baby" everything I own and travel with. If you are on planes or are prone to being overly rough on gear, you might want to consider a flight case in the future. 5) Due to the weight of the motor unit, you will DEFINITELY need 2 tripods/light stands or the extension support arms you can find online. One tripod under the center will likely ever be sufficient unless you are using a short travel distance. I am peculiar about everything I use. If this slider proves to be deficient in the future I will be changing my review. However, it has been solid for me and has yet to underperform my expectations.

Perfect, inexpensive automated slider to make a shot pop...
I recently got booked for a couple video interviews and wanted to add a little pop with subtle movement on my B cam. So I did a little research, ordered this puppy and opened it up the day before the shoot. Took everything out and set it up in a matter of minutes. However, if you are not technically savvy, you should watch a tutorial on YouTube. The remote is easy enough to figure out but not necessarily intuitive. Set your start point, end point, slide speed, manual or auto mode, loop or single a pass and you're off and running. I had this up and running within a couple minutes day of the shoot. Adds the perfect amount of movement to make a shot pop. I will say, I have not and do not really intend to use this for time lapse photography. So I can't attest to that functionality but I'm sure it's cool. The only suggestion I will make is play around with the center directional rod. If it's dead center, the slider will simply go left to right with no camera pan (cool for cinematic shots, etc). Play around with varying degrees of adjustment to dial in the perfect amount camera pan so your shot stays on your subject for interviews. I noticed you don't much. As for quality, it's built very well with aluminum plates and carbon fiber rails. The best part is that it's whisper quiet. Can't hear to motor or gears one bit. However, my brother ordered the same kit and he said he noticed a faint high pitched squeal when the slider ramps down to change directions. But again, mine is quieter than Hellen Keller. The kit comes in a convenient cary bag with foam for protection. Sure, the nylon bag is kind of cheap but it works. The entire kit is very light and takes up less space than you think. Definitely recommend.

▬ Introduction ▬▬▬ I've tried using manual sliders for awhile now, though for me personally, I've found them to be rather difficult to use, mainly trying to get a consistent smooth movement; some people have the knack for it but unfortunately I never got the hang of it. This motorised slider takes away all that difficulty pushing the slider by hand and gives you more control over the distance and speed the slider is moving with minimal effort. ▬ Box Contents & Optional Extras ▬▬▬ - Included: • Motorised slider. • Ball head for Camera. • Rechargeable battery (NP-F750). • Battery charger. • Shutter Cables for various camera brands. • Shutter extension cable. • Carry bag. - Optional Extras: This slider can be placed on a surface or mounted. If you want to mount the slider so you can raise it above the ground or get a better position, there are a couple of ways to do this: • Two tripods (or two light stands that feature a 1/4" or 3/8" thread on the spigot). Place a tripod on each end of the slider. • Tripod and Camera Slider Support Arm . The tripod screws into the centre of the tripod and the support arms latches onto the tripod legs whilst the other end of the arms screw into each end of the slider. ▬ Set-Up & Results ▬▬▬ The slider doesn't operate by remote, so you will need to download & install the 'GVM Slider' App on your smart device. With the slider powered on and the App opened up, you can find and connect to the slider. The App allows you to easily set the location points of where the slider will place your camera; once you've set the desired locations, you just have to press start and select the start and end point and the amount of times you wish the movement to be looped. If you're using the angle adjustment on the slider, I found the best way to do this was position the camera at the centre of slider first and adjust your subject centre frame, then move the camera to an end point and use the sliders angle adjustment to set the desired angle, then do the same on the other end. The slider does a great job and keeping the cameras movement smooth and consistent, despite how slow or fast the speed is set to. ▬ Final Thoughts ▬▬▬ Overall, I really like this slider; it has a solid yet lightweight construction, it's easy to use and the end results are far superior to what you can achieve compared to a manual slider. So, if you're looking for a slider that will give you more control and better results, then I would highly recommend this motorised slider.

The hardware is very good, if a little pricey, but seeing as you'd expect it to be something you only buy once, it is an acceptable expense for a serious videographer. HOWEVER, one huge omission in the product description was a deal-breaker for me. The hardware controller has been swapped for an app you can run off a mobile phone. No problem with that, BUT the app itself is puzzling. It connects via Bluetooth and although the phone could see the device, the app couldn't! I'm pretty sure that could be sorted, but there's a deeper problem. On installation, the app requires you to "set up an account" with a subsidiary of GVM (which seems to be registered in China) and each time you use it you have to "log in" and be connected to the internet. There is absolutely no need for this, and the only explanation I can think of is that they can harvest your data and, judging by the extensive permissions you have to allow, conceivably even monitor your video. The most obvious limitation is that in a live pro situation, you may have the set up ready to go and, for whatever reason, have no internet connection! There is nothing you can do. I emailed the company with a list of specific questions, but a 'manager' replied each time and refused to answer any of them. I've given up and returned it. I'm bitterly disappointed that a potentially great product is being hobbled by something that seems a little dodgy to me, as well as impractical. Will be buying one with a hardware controller.

Leider Null Punkte! Schade.
