Where Hip-Hop meets Anime. From the directors of Cowboy Bebop, Animatrix and Kill Bill animation. Mugen's a buck wild warrior--violent, thoughtless and womanizing. Jin is a vagrant ronin--mysterious, traditional, and strong. These two fiercely independent warriors couldn't be more different from one another, yet their paths cross when Fuu, a ditzy female, saves them from being executed. Fuu convinces the two young men to help her find a mysterious samurai. Review: thought space cowboys where a good mix? - well Shinichirō Watanabe does it again in this beauty yet fresh anime. samurai champloo follows a story of young teenage girl called Fuu trying to find "the samuria who smells of sunflowers", a journey that will take her and friends across Japan during its Edo period In company is rude b-boy fighting style Mugen and frosty ronin Jin who make a shaky alliance with Fuu at the start that comes into turmoil during the later parts of the series, due to all three very different yet very interesting personalities and back stories, you don't get a typical sense from other generic animes that they WANT/HAVE to work with each other but rather they are FORCED to work with one and other Mugen and Jin make it clear that they will either abandon Fuu or take out each other when they get the chance Set in rural Japan during the Edo era this show is give a new flow to it, by adding hip-hop, and it works pretty well just as Watanabe added the wild west taste to space in Cowboy Bebop the hip-hip vibe and urban taste goes well with the settings in this anime, as you can first tell with mugens fight style of having break dancing moves to even the incredible sound track that sounds really amazing, you can tell its not just tacked on but that Watanabe perfectly synced the two opposites together. You will find great detail in quality as well no episode is short from beautiful, theres only one filler episode and the voice acting is great as well, and throughout 95 percent of the show is humor, literally coming from everyone but still to say with this is still ultra violence and does have a more serious tone near the end just as shown in Watanabes other works All in all if you like your anime, your afro samurai, your ninja scroll heck if you like hip-hop give this fresh amine a buy its amazing and besides the lack of extra content on the boxset the item is amazing, go buy it now! Review: Wonderful art, stunning sound track and fun characters - Well I must say that I enjoyed this anime series very much. I first came across it 7 years ago when living in the states and I immediately recognised the artistic style and story setup as that of Cowboy Beebop, which simply put, is my favourite series of all time. Whilst not in the same league as Cowboy Beebop in terms of characters and story, there were several high points full of such majesty and beauty that took my breath away. One episode in particular called Misguided Miscreatans pt.2 has a haunting classical Japanese soundtrack that elevates that episode into something of a master piece. And yes, the entire sound track is truly wonderful. Much of the music was created by The late Japanese producer Nujabes and it is really worth seeking him out. You will not be disappointed. The songs range from sweet hip hop to soulful beats and it really shows that so much love was heaped upon this project. There's no down side to buying this collection, it's reasonably priced on desertcart, the art work is truly stunning and the characters are entertaining if not as deeply involving as Spike and co. (in Beebop). But it's the music that won me over and for that I will add to the five star reviews.

Best anime ever made, in a fantastic package
You simply can't go wrong with this set!! I wasn't expecting much from the "standard definition remaster" side of things, but as someone who has seen this series on multiple platforms I can definitely say this is the cleanest I've ever seen the show. Everything you would hope for in a blu-ray package is here (great audio, picture, quick loading, lots of disc space for episodes etc). The show itself is a work of art. Everything from the soundtrack to the script is absolutely perfect. The stories are deep and complex, without ever being confusing. Some stories will make you laugh, others will make you cry. It's a masterpiece.

A big builder.
A fantastic series with wonderful imagination and sublime artwork. I bought this when i found out it was created by the same team behind the epic "Cowboy Bebop" series and it does not disappoint. A great character development along with an overall running theme of revenge make this one of my top anime's of all time. Although at first it does start off slow and i struggled to get into the emotions of the characters it slowly but surely comes into its own. This been a good thing as you appreciate it so much more and have a good replay cycle. The drawing style of it all is also very stark and bright and is directed very well. Certain scenes either set in the rain or moonlight also work so well in setting the tone of the piece. I would explain the storyline but other reviewers have done it justice and i would just be repeating them. So again, a wonderful series with many small subplots and one final epic last three episodes. Would fully recommend buying does not dissapoint.

cool hip hop samurai anime
From the creator of cowboy bebop comes a funky sword swinging samurai tale. Two samurai have to help a girl find a guy who smells of sunflowers the end lol :) but really thats the main plot.I say this because as plain as that may sound this anime is about the journey more than the destination. Mugen-a wild/hot headed and unorthodox warrior + Jen-a well mannered and precise Ronni(spot the character clash) accompanied by a girl called fuu who helps these two escape execution in return to help her find this smelly samurai. The fights are........some of the best I have seen in anime with amazing special combos by mugen. each episode is something new and flesh and some times I was forgetting what their main goal was but that was because each story I found entertaining and some I found touched on serious subjects although I would say the majority of the time I was laughing at mugens hilarious foul mouthed one liners. I did not want this series to end as it became so addictive.

This is a UK clone of the Funimation release, and when i bought it was relatively cheaper than that version 2nd hand. This will work on Region A players(US players) and Region B as well. I would highly recommend this release if you can't find the funimation version and want to own it physically. As far as i could tell it was the same version as the 2019 classics reissue, and as it's funimation who did the initial release they never ever tweak or update their releases after they do one(in this case reissuing the series on blu ray in 2012 to fix their bad 1st release). Great price, solid release

Interesting and a bit experimental but flawed. The quality of the storylines varied massively and the end result is a schizophrenic storyline. Some people will love it but i cannot recommend the series as a whole.
