Hello, This is natural cuttlefish bone, so it's light weight, it's normal. The silver metals used to attached the cuttlefish bone to the bird cage, which will make it easier for the birds to chew. Thank you :)

when will you have cuttlebone without backing

i use cuttlebone for my birds so i need a backing to keep them in a cuttlebone holder. for birds there is a calcium powder additive to mix in food. not sure about other creatures.

Does this have any salt additive?

it’s supposed to be natural cuttlebone. however cuttle fish are saltwater fish. not sure if that provides salt? i don’t think additional salt is added, based on their description.

Do these have sepia bone in them?

No, not in these ones, as far as I know. I have had some that I purchased somewhere else that actually had the bones that you could see, but these seem more like they are pressed together in the the same shape but are not complete cuttlefish. This is my opinion only, I do not know for sure, I am just telling you what I think is true. My turtle loved it just as much as the actual cuttlefish ones.
