The King's last studio album from '77, certified multi-platinum and containing the hit singles "Way Down," "Moody Blue," "Unchained Melody" and "Hurt" along with ten tracks on from Elvis Presley Boulevard. Review: After Thirty Years Still The King ! - It is hard to believe that thirty years have passed since Elvis Presley left this earth and yet it seems he is still here. No musical personality has left such an indelible mark on his fans, on music and society in general as has Elvis. This is especially remarkable in that I was never an Elvis fan when he first emerged in 1955 but some years later, in 1960, I bought an album by the Johnny Mann Singers entitled BALLADS OF THE KING as I had heard it played endlessly on the radio and loved every interpretation of the "king's" many beautiful ballads. I became a fan at that time and although my roots are big band, Sinatra, the Four Freshmen and Count Basie, I do in fact love, respect and admire the King Of Rock N' Roll and what he has contributed to great American pop music. Being tagged the King Of Rock N' Roll is almost a misnomer for Elvis was a classic balladeer, crooner, blues, ragtime and gospel interpreter. His voice was as good as Crosby's and Martin's, whom he admired and no other "rocker" could match his clarity, range and emotion. The only two who come to mind are Gary Puckett and Roy Orbison. This album, MOODY BLUE, is without a doubt one of my favorites. It displays the emotive and plaintiff side of Elvis and clearly paints the picture of a man who is sad, somewhat depressed and aware of some mistakes he has made in his personal life. Except for the "live" 'LIL DARLIN, the entire contents of the combined "twofer" of MOODY BLUE and LIVE FROM ELVIS PRESLEY BOULEVARD is Elvis at his most emotional and vocal best. His live UNCHAINED MELODY, recorded four months before he died, is classic. HE'LL HAVE TO GO, SHE STILL THINKS I CARE, IT'S EASY FOR YOU, NEVER AGAIN and BITTER THEY ARE THE HARDER THEY FALL all prove that Elvis sang Country better than any male Country singer with the exception of Jim Reeves. Elvis' SOLITAIRE is simply the best version out there and I'LL NEVER FALL IN LOVE AGAIN supercedes Tom Jones' version. All in all I rate this a strong five stars and highly recommend it to any Elvis fan who may have missed it or just to any lover of great emotional Country singing. Review: Final album - Really don't like Elvis, but like this album. Little Richard and Chuck Berry are the true Kings of Rock & Roll!

Down Memory Lane
I have played this CD many times since receiving it. I love it not just because of the selection of songs done in Elvis' grand and endearing style, but because it reveals how Elvis was hurting and expressing himself through his music. Being a teenager in the fifties, I really took to him and his music. Then I met the love of my life, married, and raised a family. Elvis faded from importance, though I would hear his music and of him. I could not help wondering and feeling sad over how such a talented and beloved entertainer could lose out on life. Last year when there was much about him because of the 25th anniversary of his death, and maybe because I was lonely, I became interested again. I bought my first CD - ELVIS 30 #1 HITS just to bring back memories. I was immediately hooked again by his great voice and proceeded to buy his 50 GREATEST LOVE SONGS, COUNTRY COLLECTION, PEACE IN THE VALLEY, and THE COMPLETE 50'S MASTERS. I also bought some videos, but something was missing. I wanted to experience some of his final recordings, and MOODY BLUE seemed the answer. For the moment at least, I am fulfilled. Though undeniably sad for me, both because of the way Elvis was feeling and because of my own feelings of loss, I nevertheless love this CD. I am overjoyed that his music is still available to an old fan and thankful his memory lives on in so many hearts through his music. LIVE ON ELVIS till I meet up with you in Heaven where I can hear you sing for Jesus "live and in person".

It's Elvis! What More Can I Say?
Of all in my collection, this one is my least favorite. My idea (and it's strictly mine) is that they (the estate) gathered up some unpublished songs and put them together on a CD and this is the result. I'm sorry. It's Elvis, but not up to his usual high standards.
