Absolute Superman by Geoff Johns & Gary Frank

Absolute Superman by Geoff Johns, Gary Frank and John Sibal (2008-20010) returns the Superman Family of characters into continuity after they had been removed by the iconic Crisis On Infinite Earths event of 1985. A generation of comic book readers had a chance at last to see Superman at full blast, and what a blast it is. Wow. Capturing how uncannily good Christopher Reeve was at playing-up Clark Kent's mild-mannered ways as we all as reminding us us of Superman's kind-hearted magnificence. Modernizing Lois Lane as a journalist who organically becomes part of the story that she is investigating. Practically perfect in every way :D

La verdad, llevaba un buen tiempo esperando algo de Geoff Johns en cuanto a ediciones especiales que no fuesen Deluxe, y con esta edición en Absolute quedé completamente satisfecho. La calidad de las historias, del material en que se nos presentan, y la dedicación en general que se le invirtió se nota y de lejos. Se nos introduce con una historia donde Superman estaría reencontrándose con viejos conocidos (La Legión de Superhéroes) porque necesitarían su ayuda para enfrentan a un grupo de individuos xenófobos que han estado esparciendo mentiras por todo el mundo con respecto al origen de Kal-El y su supuesto odio a los extraterrestres, dándoles "credibilidad" de sus actos en base a mentiras. El cómo manejaron este tema es sin dudar de digna admiración a Johns. El final de este libro en cuanto a historias me gustó también, repasando los orígenes de Clark Kent/Kal-El, todas las aflicciones/inseguridades que sufrió por sus poderes que iban desarrollándose poco a poco, y lo que lo llevó a convertirse en Superman al final; demostrando que Superman no es Superman por sus grandes capacidades físicas, sino por sus actos y amor que tiene a otros, y que él siempre estará ahí para luchar por la Verdad, Justicia y un Mejor Mañana. El arte de Gary Frank complementa bastante, facilita y hace más deleitable la lectura. Lo único que no me gustó es que no hubo más (porque realmente quise leer más, y me quedé con ganas de más), y entiendo que solo copilan exclusivamente lo que hicieron Geoff Johns y Gary Frank juntos, pero realmente hubiese estado interesante que hubiesen puesto el evento de Nueva Krypton acá (después de que lean Superman: Braniac, van a entender por qué) o incluso Superman: The Last Son, ya que así se sentiría más completa la historia. Pero lo anterior mencionado no es motivo para quitarle las 5 estrellas que merece esta edición Absolute. 10/10

Geoff Johns and Gary Frank deliver with this collection of Superman. The story and the artwork is top notch with some really amazing moments of Superman using his incredible powers. If there is ever a film that introduces Brainiac, the story about him in this book should be adapted as it is a perfect introduction to audiences not familiar with the character. Seek out this book. You will not regret your purchase.

Talk about a MASSIVE book. I cannot wait to dig farther into this one. The format, the quality, the beautiful art...you can't go wrong, especially if this is your first time reading all of Johns and Frank's work on Superman. If it's your second, third or twentieth time, well...you'll be right at home and still in awe just like the first time you gave these a crack open.

I am a big Geoff johns fan and this book was fantastic, he knows how to keep you interested and the artwork is great.. one warning the book is enormous and comes in a huge package

Geoff Johns and Gary Frank are able to take Superman to new heights by somehow capturing the magic of the Chris Reeve movies on the page. They take everything we loved about those films and engage us in stories that are familiar but entirely new at the same time. Everything Superman should be is in this book. An incredible read with fantastic behind the scenes content.

Great read

I was on the fence but I’m glad I got this. I was on the fence because I have always avoided absolute editions. They just don’t fit nicely on my shelves. Because it was my favorite character Superman I conceded. I think DC made a good choice. I had read Superman and the Legion before but it was great seeing the Legion in bright large oversized pages. I had never read “Origins” and Im thinking that it was my favorite one. They all really had the look and feel of the original movies with Christopher Reeves. I’m all for it. I think this would make a good jumping on point or also essential for a die hard fan!

I'm a mature reader,63 ,been into comics/comic art all my life, I have just recieved this book,I've already got the stories in smaller volumes,but I'm so happy and over the moon to recieve this book,it is expensive but you can see where every drop of that money went.. it comes in a lovely slip case,the book is heavy but in a good way,the print quality and paper is fantastic...Gary Frank must be so proud and if you like Christopher Reeves then you will love Frank's homage to the late actor. I am so happy with this and came in it's own cardboard container,came to me in surperb condition...I will stop gushing about this now,but it's so worth the price,a super effort for a superman,and Gary,I love your work.
