Saga Volume 8 (8)

2022-01-24: While this arc may not be as strong as The War for Phang (and while werewolf abortionists might not have been my all-time favorite thing in the wild, wild, west), this is still top-notch storytelling. It covers immensely impactful and heartbreaking realities that happen to mothers all over this world. It is also the first arc where Hazel is old enough to be a true contributor to the story, with her own agency, and that's a really great time. It's beautiful to have watched her grow up, and to see the girl she has become. 2017-10-25: -- read as single issues #43 - #48 -- While I didn't enjoy Volume 8 quite as much as Volume 7 (The War for Phang), you can't really blame this arc. I thought the Phang arc was very strong. That being said this is a solid arc and while it wasn't the most exciting of all time, it covered some interesting moral ground in the series (no surprise coming from BKV). The end of issue #48 was also very exciting, and hints at a promising next arc. I also want to note that I am still just so in awe of Fiona's skill. Every time a new cover comes out I'm giddy to see it on the front of the next trade; they're all deserving of that spot.

As a novice comics reader, this was one of the very first series that I really enjoyed and followed throughout the entire saga (pun intended). The romance, adult themes and topics along with the evolution of the characters and their family is captivating. I highly recommend for a great read cover to cover!

Not for kids. There are adult themes and depictions. I shared these with my 20 year old niece, but not my 13 year old nephew. His mom would not approve. I only mention this so somebody doesn't buy it for a young reader, thinking it's fairy tale type stuff. I read all 9 collections (54 comic books) over one weekend. Every spare moment, I went back to the Fable story. Well written and beautifully illustrated, Fable surpassed expectations. Now, if the author and artist would finish their sabbatical and provide the second half of the story... please.

This was a great continuation of the series especially since there was very little death. Hopefully this does not mean the next volume will make up for the lack of bloodshed. As always the artwork was beautiful and the storytelling was masterfully done.

<i>Saga</i> is another series that continues to surprise me with how much I enjoy it. I did not like the first volume of the collected editions the first time I read it, and set the entire series aside in my head. Cut to about a year later, and a friend convinced me to give the series a try again, so I picked up the first volume again and something clicked for me this time - the story really stuck with me (Vaughn's writing really hit home for me the second reading), and Staples artwork is spot on perfect for this story. As the series has progressed, it has become way more timely and aware of what's going on in the real world today and bringing those themes into the story; themes of acceptance for those who are different (or lack of acceptance in some cases), trans rights, women's rights, etc. What started out to me as being a simple battle between two cultures who cannot accept each other's differences has become a story that is still about these problems, but one that is now holding up a mirror to what's going on in the real world. Staples art has continued to shine issue after issue and while there does seem to be a whole lot of nothing happening from one story arc to another, the storytelling is still strong and Vaughn continues to move the characters along, albeit at a slightly slower pace than I'd like, but it still seems to work. I'll continue to read this series as long as Vaughn and Staples continue to out out such strong work.

A very fine piece of work. (Not just this volume but the whole series.) The story telling is superb. You never know what’s round the next corner, but that’s what makes it good.

Another stunning volume in my favorite graphic novel series. There are endless things to be drawn to about this series: Staples' seemingly-effortless and brilliant art, Vaughan's witty and delicious writing, the vital human themes that weave through every volume and ground the entire collection. Regardless of what captures you, you will fall in love and return again and again to discover new glittering morsels each time.

“Whether we like it or not, most of our deepest held beliefs come straight from the people who made us.” This volume raises moral topics of abortion and miscarriage. It deals with pain and grieving. The coming to terms with your own body as we see Hazel begin to grow up. And proves yet again that Alana and Marko have an incredible strong relationship as well as Alana herself being such a strong character. It makes me so happy to see that Hazel will follow in her footsteps! As always, Hazel's narrations are so profound and eloquent. Can't wait to see what's in store for Vol 9!!

This is the latest volume in the bestselling saga series! I can't believe that I had to wait a whole year for this; that just wasn't fair. And now I need to wait for GOD KNOWS HOW LONG FOR VOLUME 9. NO. NO. NO. After the traumatic events of the War for Phang, Hazel, her parents, and their surviving companions embark on a life-changing adventure at the westernmost edge of the universe. Collecting: Saga 43-48 During volume 8, we follow the aftermath of volume 7 and pretty much carry on where 7 left off, with that heartbreaking loss that sucker-punched us and made us all cry for about 5 weeks. Throughout volume 8, Vaughan helps us deal with the losses that we have suffered over the past couple of volumes and part of the way that he does this is by creating such a strong relationship between Alana and Marko. There was a time during these comics that I thought they would break up for good because of how tense it was getting between them. BUT they made up and made their relationship work for Hazel. Our dear Hazel. SHE IS SO PRECIOUS AND HER I LOVE HER SO MUCH. She is literally the most cutest thing ever and I love the narration of her story, but I also love her as a child as well and watching her grow up and deal with different things. During this volume, she had to deal with a character named 'Kurti' and I'm not going to reveal who that is for people who haven't read previous volumes. Her relationship with Kurti and how she interacted with him was beautiful to read and genuinely brought tears to my eyes. But it wasn't just how Hazel interacted with him, it was how Alana and Marko dealt with him as well and how it changed them as people. I WEPT SO MUCH. But moving away from the ball of emotional mess, it was nice (?) - and kinda weird - to see Sir Robot (formerly Prince Robot IV) and everyone else become sort-of-friends. I mean... at least they aren't trying to blow each other's heads off at every chance that they get. AND WE HAVE A NEW SHIP! I am so happy that it happened. It came out of nowhere and it kind of gave me whiplash because of it, but I can't wait to see where this goes and how Vaughan carries on with the ship but also with the rest of the story. The past couple of issues have been very emotional so I'm intrigued how Vaughan finishes off the healing process of losing the characters and how he gets them to move on to new adventures.

Los conflictos nunca paran en este comics y las resoluciones siempre llegan de forma excelente. Varias partes donde me mantuvo fijo a las viñetas esperando lo peor. Realmente saben cómo después de 40 números, mantener una historia entretenida. Uno de los mejores volúmenes con un final que desearías quedará allí.

Esta saga de comics es fantástica. Personalmente, para cualquier persona que sepa inglés le recomiendo esta edición, antes que la española, ya que está bien organizada. En la española, las portadas de cada número se encuentra al final del tomo, lo que no tiene ningún sentido, pues de este modo no sabes que número te estás leyendo. En la versión en inglés, se respeta la estructura original y cada número, de los 6 que componen cada volumen, está diferenciado de los demás. Además, esta edición en más barata que la española que solo se puede encontrar en tapa dura.

Brilliant and enchanting this entire series has kept me so entertained. Brian is a wonderful artist and storyteller. Must read.
