Half good; half disappointing.
I've always wanted to try MaimeriBlu watercolors so ordered this set. Some of the colors are good, some are really wishy washy. The rose and the red were particularly disappointing. I had to layer and layer to get any kind of depth to the color and then I wasn't happy. Tried a couple different approaches to get the paint moving, but no luck. The green gold is thick and doesn't flow, but that's (I think) due to the amount of copper in the mix. The primary yellow, Prussian blue and carbon black performed as would be expected from a quality watercolor paint.

My Favorite Professional Watercolor Brand!
Italian made Maimeri Blu watercolors are some of the best in quality on the market. They are known for their color vibrancy and great performance. They are easy to use and apply well in both wet-to-wet and wet-to-dry applications, and blend beautifully. This Jenna Rainey curated set of six 12ml tubes is no exception. I swatched these on cheap wood blend watercolor paper (photo) to show how they still achieve wonderful results. On 100% cotton paper, which I strongly recommend, they are absolutely divine! An exceptional value! If you plan on creating a palette of Maimeri Blue watercolors, some of the curated sets are a great way to affordably build your collection, as opposed to buying the tubes individually. This set, the Jeannie Dickson set, and the starter set are all a great value with excellent color selections. I honestly prefer Maimeri Blu over my Daniel Smith, Holbein, Schminke, and Winsor Newton watercolors.

You can mix so much
I give this 5 stars because I trust Jenna, it's a creamy consistency that lays down perfectly and since this is an expensive brand, this definitely a great deal...I do agree that the permanent red light and the quinacridone rose are so close it's next to impossible to tell them apart in your pallet or sometimes even on paper but you will know when you're mixing colors whether you used the warm or cool. I have been able to really play with mixing since these are wonderful primary colors over all except the green gold. Im happy with it and it's the best deal way to get some high quality tubes of watercolor that will be consistently used alone or in making new colors.

Rich and creamy single pigment watercolors
Love these paints. My only criticism is that black was included in the set, which I rarely use and already have plenty of, so I wish there were one more vibrant color. I feel like the addition of black was a waste. Otherwise, they are gorgeous and worth the purchase. Jenna, please consider replacing the black!

Interesting colors
The paints are nice, blend well and very well pigmented. The colors are different and not necessarily colors I would probably reach for on a regular basis. They are good for helping me stretch in terms of using colors outside my comfort zone so I don't regret having them but I’m not sure I would have purchased them now that I’ve tried them. They are very nice just not colors I reach for.

Excellent value. Excellent product.
MaimeriBlu watercolor paints are beautifully made - most are single pigments. This is a lovely set at a great price.

I prefer the pigmentation in Windsor Newton, Daniel Smith, QoR, and Mission Gold. These paints just take longer to activate. However, the Prussian Blue dries better in a pan without shrinking to the point of cracking and crumbling (I have this problem with Windsor Newton). The colors work well together when you play with them more frequently and I am enjoying using it on occasion for a limited pallet. Considering Jenna Rainey’s preference for less problematic pigments from a health perspective, it’s surprising to see this essential pallet has a black pigment labeled with carcinogenic warnings and the green gold with ACMI CL certification instead of ACMI AP (though not uncommon with some other paints as well). Overall, I prefer some of my other paints, but don’t mind this pallet once in a while.
