Top notch feature phone. Easy to use.
Nice flip phone I keep as a backup to my main iPhone. Good clear sound and display. I have a couple of other feature phones and find this one easier to use in navigating the menus - all pretty logical as you have 4 way rocker with central OK action plus two flexible menu/action buttons either side. Takes nano-sim like my iPhone and memory card for extra storage of photos etc. Photo resolution ranges upto 1280x960 which is very good for a non smartphone. Also brightness, contrast, exposure-bias, multi-shot, white balance, self-timer. So way better than most feature phones. Coupled with it's three single button favourite phone contact and an emergency call button on the back, it could be the ideal older person's phone. No video option-just still photos which it does a good job of. It also has simple illuminated icons when phone closed to indicate a phone call, message, low battery. Oh battery lasts for days and usb-c charge port. Bluetooth and 3.5mm earphones support. Extras include an easy to use 4 function calculator with M+ M- +- etc. Good calendar with daily weekly monthly views. No games. Good/Bad it depends on you. In summary very good phone if you don't want a smartphone.

Basic phone, pictures for contacts could be bigger.
Annoying sound on key press and when phone is switched on - no settings found to adjust. Picture against contact is actually quite small, elderly would find that difficult to see. Found phone is prone to slipping due to design.

Good basic phone
Panasonic KX-TU550EXB 4G Essentials review. This phone does have various ring tones, the digits and contacts are clear and not tiny. You can turn off the start up music, simple to use and some of the other reviews must be in using different model.

Sturdy, good battery life, minute 'instructions' and text, complicated, NOT for Senior use
Very complicated, minute texts and instructions, good sturdy construction, okay for SHORT texts, dialling tone short unchangeable, very easy if call is missed, check small details, watch out for long conversations, eats up charging time, conversation can suddenly break up, become garbled, receive texts ok, sending texts, forget it, camera is good but again very difficult to set up, light strong good, sound average, instruction manual microscopic, PATIENCE IS NEEDED THROUGHOUT WITH USE, text is very complicated to use, thus short text and replies recommended, memory is needed for various routines to try to achieve your 'goal'. dexterity is imperative thus usage for the older user, keep away from this mobile phone

Super as a back up phone. Pretty good but not perfect for the elderly.
Super phone - I'm really pleased with mine. I bought it mainly to use as a back up phone for home and also because the EE signal here on my iphone is not great, but the SMARTY signal in the house is good - so I'm using this Panasonic as you would a landline, basically. Much cheaper than an actual landline, and great for emergency use. I bought this for about £38 on Amazon Warehouse (used, excellent condition). For me (44yrs old) - I have had no issues using the phone or working out settings, volumes etc - it's pretty straighforward to use and no instruction manual neeeded for me at least. Love the old school flip action to answer/hang up. Battery life seems excellent so far. Cal quality is very good but not perfect. According to Panasonic this phone is enabled for HD voice calls (also called VoLTE)… which basically uses the 4G network to enhance call quality. My SIM/provider I don’t think has yet rolled out this service to my area so I’m hoping this will soon happen so that call quality is even better.

Instructions are an insult to the buyer
About half of the instructions describe how to set the battery on fire or make it explode. The text on the diagram is way too small for anyone to read. Instructions even fail to mention that you have to remove the backshell to installSIM card and battery. No mention of any of the special functions. Web instructions no better. In use, function is marred by unnecessary, excessively loud and very long melody that occurs when switching on or off. Even plays when auto shutdown occurs. No way to adjust or disable. Light only works when phone is switched on. The phone does however work and looks sturdy. Whether the melody will scare an older person from using it is unclear. Charging dock well engineered. Needs a firmware rewrite to make it less offensive and proper instructions. Update, after about 3 months, whilst it was stood on my bedside cabinet it developed a fault. Now it shows two reception bars but with a red cross above them. I think this means that it is not transmitting a beacon signal to negotiate with a cell tower. This is a relatively expensive phone and should give at least 5 years service. It has been handled with great care. I will contact Panasonic when I have the time, but have had to buy an alternative product in the interim which, incidentally, has far better instructions. Perhaps an early 4G adopter, lacking experience, that is best avoided. Red in colour but lemon in use.
